might get myself one of those for the beat 'em ups.
also, probably more expensive, what would you pay for a cd-i system?

$10 "loose".
CD-i is a whole different animal, there are so many different kinds of models. Use the online guide to find our assessment of each one.

I didn't realize the C64 was the system to get for beat-em-ups....I'm thinking of the system comparisons of Final Fight a couple months ago in Retrogamer magazine, and the Street Fighter one from last month....neither one of the C64 versions looked or played that great...

Overall, I'd say the Commodore 64 was actually pretty bad at beat-em-ups. Of course it had a lot of them, but then again it had a lot of everything.
Don't let that stop you from picking one up -- it's still my favorite system of all time.

I miss my C128D. :(
I wonder how much it would cost to find one these days, along with a Commodore monitor for it.

i'm making a list of beat 'em ups spanning every console, and i stumbled open a game called "spitting image". while not a beat 'em up according to gamefaqs, it is a weird looking game. anyone know anything about it, and if there's a non-c64 version (a poster on the c64 i used for resources said "he hated this version"). it has ronald reagan and what appear to be political rivals during the 80s in some fighting context.

Listing the amount of games for the C64 is nigh impossible, because of the huge amount of type-in programs available for input through basic, and the sheer amount of disk-based releases, both in the US and in the UK and Europe, the system being hugely popular in all areas. There might be an official number on cart-based games, but the number of total games for the system surely numbers in the tens of thousands.

I've seen estimates by some 'experts' in the field that if you include EVERYTHING -- disc games, cart games, re-releases, homebrews, fan made games, BBS games that were downloaded, from every country in the world, and include all of the Commodore computer line -- PET, Vic 20, C64, and C128 and the other smaller ones (but not the Commodore console) -- like I said, everything --
It's about 100,000 titles. :eek 2:

Gamebase 64 is a program and a group of people who are trying to archive and document all known Commodore 64 programs.
GB64 v2.0 contains 14,000 games, and the entire collection spans 3 CDs.
