View Full Version : RIP Microplay on Denali
Just a few days ago, one of the two microplay stores closed here in Anchorage. We are now down to one. They got most of the inventory of the other store, so its not all that bad. I just hope this one stays in buisness, cuz it really beats goin to gamestop. :sob:

oh dear god....what street?! I used to live in Bethel...and each time I'd go to Anchorage back in 1995-1998, I used to buy Saturn and PSX games there all the time....I'll still never forget the day I bought CastleVania SOTN brand new from them :(
The one on denali, midtown. The one on abbot is still open. Sad to say however, that there are slim pickins on Saturn, and Dreamcast games though.

Wait, Microplay is a chain? I did not know that. Anyway, The Microplay around my area always has a nice selection of used NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, and N64 games but they are usually ridiculously overpriced. $24.99 for Super Metroid?! Pfft!
At least you guys have that stuff there. I cant buy older stuff anywhere out here. I really miss the old Funcoland in Queens NY where I use to live. You cuuld get anything in there. Probably not anymore though. The net is the only place for me to get the old stuff nowadays.

Microplay is a Canadian chain that was bought by Quebec's media giant Quebecor a couple of years ago. It was originally founded by Hip Interactive (maker of Hip Gear products) and sold to Jumbo Video in 2002, which was then acquired by Quebecor.
As for the American business side, I can't find any information about it. Was it sold along with the Canadian Microplay? I don't know. And Microplay's website is awfully outdated... it predates the Quebecor purchase.
