So they're exploring Shadow's storyline. That's cool, spices things up as opposed to another helping of "Eggman is taking over the world, here's some new levels"

Well, the only thing I'm suprized about is the use of a gun...

Shadow has always been my favorite charater from the second he was introduced, and its cool that we actually get to know something about him now. Plus, its PS2, so I'll be getting it for sure.

The gun is EXTREMELY different in my opinion, also, I'm pretty sure that's a typo on the site, because at that induction ceremony, Isuka-san said it was for Gamecube.

Sweet, we get some more 'cube exclusives. anyway i think it's about time shadow got his own game, but i wonder if now all the sonic games will have a light/dark version. (gone the way of pokemon red/blue or that megaman one) like having sonic adventure light and sonic adventure dark and telling people "collect both" as a way of geting more cashh.

Nice to see a different game in the Sonic series after the rehashes of late. Hope this retains the quality of the titles from Sonic Adventure and up!

Personally i liked shadow ever since i played him the first time.. However i liked it better that he was always mysterious. Now we'll know Too much about him.

I didn't see the video (Yet) I'll download it tomorrow.

Is this game coming for Xbox?

wow, well I can't say I was expecting this. It seems interesting, but is a gun really necessary? It just looks....wrong. I'll still be buying it though. It's nice to see that sega's at least trying something different.

I think I've played though SA1 like 3 times, I love that game.

Man, this is bunk.

If someone came up to me in 1991 and said 14 years later Sonic will be BLACK and have a GUN I would be drawing parallels to Mario in a trenchcoat with a bowie knife sticking koopas. This is like some retarded dream a middle-school age child would conceive: Sonic's awesome and all.. but what if he had a firearm, and a red sports car?!?!

Perhaps for those that have been a fan of the series since whenever, but for someone like me that never really liked Sonic (sorry), the new gameplay element might seem interesting.

I predict this game will sell fairly well.

I welcome this. The Sonic series has truly gotten stale. Since SA1 on DC, I've been hoping for a fast pased action game starring SONIC only, the other characters can be in there, fine, but as NPCs - the game needs to be all hedgehog and not broken up with some stupid fishing levels. This could be the fun fast pased sonic game that I've been hoping for, it just happens to not be 'sonic' but it COULD still be fun...

Well like E-102 Gamma's missions, it maybe fun as well...the thing is I just realized, is Shadow is not a real hedgehog...he really is a creation of Eggman/Robotnik...so giving him more robot like features (i.e. the gun) is pretty normal I think

Personally, I think this really just opens the door for a lot of future innovation with the series. I fully agree with whoever posted and said if he didn't have the gun, people would just be saying, "A game where sonice is black instead of blue... yawn." It seems like it could have a few very interesting elements in it, and I'm more interested in it because of that gun than I was in any of the 3D Sonics since Sonic Adventure. It could really open some interesting gameplay elements...

Or it could suck.

I wonder what else will be different. Seems to me that Shadow may become a Knuckles-like character... and I would welcome him into the Sonic world in that case.

GOD this is gonna suck. This was Sega's last chance to win me back after Sonic Heroes, but I guess they're not smart enough for that. Shadow looks STUPID with a gun. I laughed my ass off in that first scene where he walks towards the camera and then shoots it. He looks like a freakin TODDLER carrying a gun, which is both hilarious and creepy at the same time.
It's just Sega sputtering out another mediocre game. All they did was take the "Heroes" engine and tweak it so you could use a gun.

Oh, and this is gonna be 'Cube exclusive? Gee, thanks, Sega, for shoveling over another pile of crap to your biggest supporters.

LOL Best cartoon evar.

Anywho, can't say I'm a big fan of the whole "gun" thing either, but I figure the least I can do is give it a chance. Perhaps that jackass Naka has finally realized that people play Sonic games for two reason: to play as Sonic, and to run really fast. This looks like it may bring back the whole "not playing as a half dozen characters at once" premise, which just works far better, at least with the quality of the engine they use.

...hell, I'm be hoping they'll just kill off the Sonic Adventure engine...this'd be what, the fifth game to use it? It wasn't that great to begin with, anyway...

It's wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Just call me burned after plopping 50 smackers down on launch day and getting such a let-down.

Nothing's wrong with being a Cube exclusive. I LOVE my Cube! It just feels like a lot of the Cube exclusives that Sega's brought to it lately are just, well, CRAP they know wouldn't sell otherwise.

Sorry if I ticked off anyone from my rant earlier, but a Sonic character running around shooting off a handgun just seems WRONG to me.

i dont think that this is gonna be all that great. as ive sed on numberous other forums, Sonic was the best when it was 2D and then when they came out with Sonic: Heroes later on down the line, i was majorly disappointed. and the game itself was cool for the first hour, maybe two, then the controls got annoying and it was nothing like when i play Sonic 2 on my Game Gear. i actually had to recover from Sonic Heroes. it took me 3 hours of Game Gear play. then i was back to normal.

A more cartoony gun I think would be better, the realisitic vibe doesn't fit with a hedgehog golding it. And if he was created to be perfect, does ne need a gun?

I'm waiting on a Sonic game that has the original 3, Sonic Tails and Knuckles, like Sonic and Knuckles did. Same kind of gameplay for all three with different tweaks.

Ehhh. I can't say I'm impressed at all with this. I too bought Sonic Heroes when it first came out (a full $100AUS) and played it for about half an hour before I shelved it with disgust. I haven't played it since.

The Sonic universe is getting utterly retarded. What's so bad about sticking with the original characters? I mean, wow, Shadow has a gun. I don't play Sonic when I feel like a shooter (which is never, by the way LOL), I play Sonic when I want to run. Occasionally when I want to dig for urinal cakes. :P

I could say at least it's not a rehash, but Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were wayyy better than that Sonic Heroes pile of dross. I WANTED to love that game, but I just COULDN'T. I can see the exact same thing happening here. What's so bad about keeping Sonic, Tails and Knux in their own game without any of the other characters? What's so bad about keeping the original running/exploring formula? There must be something glaringly obvious I'm missing, since Sega seems to be delibrately steering AWAY from what MADE Sonic so successful. There were like, 3 Shadow missions in Sonic Adveture 2 and a billion stupid Robotnik shooting ones. BAH.

Call me closeminded, but shooting doesn't belong in Sonic games, period.

This is why I love DP so much. We all have our own valid opinions, which we can express and discuss without flaming the smack out of each other.

Personally, I'm willing to give it a chance. Maybe make it a more cartoony gun, a ray gun of some sort. Or some sort of wrist-attatchment that shoots rockets :P
If it ends up being good, I'll end up getting it sooner than later. If its bad, I'll probably end up buying it somewhere down the line just to see for myself. I still have faith in Sonic Team and my favorite blue hedgehog and company.

I'll bite as well if it's a straight adventure game like SA1. Otherwise, I'll pass. SA2, SA2:B, and SH were too gimmicky to keep my interest.

The gun thing doesn't really bother me one way or another. It's a newish character with a new element to the Sonic universe.

To cite a recent example, people didn't go up in arms when the new Oddworld game was a FPS (probably because people don't CARE about the Oddworld universe....). It's a testament and a curse to the Sonic series that people are willing to get worked up over that kind of change.

It makes sense. Sonic is so PASSE now. He is getting on, and they need a new replacement for the new generation.

Sonic was designed for us. Kids today don't want our garbage, They want something new and improved. Hence, Shadow.

Plus, he also has the bonus of being EXACTLY like Sonic! So no loss there then.

Basically, Sonic is blue. He looks camp, and was designed for people of the 90's. Shadow is black and red. He looks cool. He looks hard, and not cutey like Sonic does. He even has a bit of an attitude.

Doesn't take a genius to see what people are demanding. Sega is just giving the people what they want.

I don't know you people, on every other thread, you are getting worked up about everything. On this one is about SA3 (tentatively named) includes shadow and he uses a gun. Hey, i don't know you, but change is welcomed round here, not just the same plain old stuff. Sure we all love the clasics, but THEY ARE CLASSICS, they are not meant exactly for us anyway.

Also a lot of you got all worked up with the revolution hopefully having dvd playback or bigger discs, and the classic "omg t3h nintendo i5 kiddi3' but let's not forget 'thank you nintendo for being one generation late for everything'.

Lemme get this straight, you can accept innovation when someone else does it, but not when nintendo is trying it? I'm just guessing, video games kinda kicked up again in the late 80's, early 90's because of who? yes, it was nintendo.

This may sound as yet another fanboy rant' but it's not just me who may see it like this.

Sure sega is trying to innovate using shadow for a game. IS IT THAT BAD FOR YOU PEOPLE? can't you just accept the fact that things change? what were the online play nay sayers saying when they announced live? it was something new, so they had to crap on it before just accepting it.

I just don't understand, you don't like something, you don't buy it. Just cause a lot of us are collectors, it doesn't mean to go and buy everything they shove up a store shelf. Show them you don't like the idea of revolution, or shadow, don't buy the damn game/system and you are all set!

Ok, please don't pay attention to the rant.

It really bugs me when I read the development team speaking out about getting back to the roots of sonic, and now we're heading as far away from the originals as possible.

We're controlling a different main character, and he has a gun.

Why oh why can't they take a leaf out of Viewtiful Joe's book? 2D has its place, it just has to be beefed up a little. For me, Sonic will NEVER look or play right in 3D.

When Sonic debuted, he was presented as a hip, sassy rodent with an attitude (in contrast to kid-safe Mario). Everyone cool had attitudes in the late 80s and early 90s, so Sonic needed one too. Sonic 2 comes out, and he's still a totally awesome guy. Except now he has Tails, who is sooooo kawaii! Then in Sonic 3, he's snowboarding and Knuckles enters the picture as a streetwise, mad phat monotreme with dreadlocks.

The Saturn Sonic game was going to be named "Sonic X-Treme".

Then the Adventure games came along, and they feature soundtracks with rapping, a new, grafitti wildstyle-inspired design for all the characters, and product placement in the form of grinding shoes.

So maybe Sega is pandering to what's trendy by creating a black, angsty hedgehog and giving him a gun, but haven't they been doing that all along?
