Found this article at Slashdot about someone making homebrew games for the Nintendo DS. Just thought I'd share to the masses that might care.

The sad thing is the system needs all the games it can get.

This is great news indeed. I can't wait to see more homebrew stuff come out. It would be cool to test homebrew demos and such on a flash card, but unfortunately, no one has made any commercially available yet. Anyone heard word on this yet?

The only way to do it is with a passthrough device. The current one that I know about is called 'passme' - pretty much it goes like this - Passme is similar in look and interface to say, an adaptor that you would use to play a japanese famicom cart on a nes. Think of it like that, but used for the DS-Card slot. You plug your DS game card into the 'passme' and then plug the 'passme' into the DS Card slot. It gets the BIOS from the DS-Card, but then lets you execute code From a GBA Flash Cart at the same time, the whole point is that it lets you execute the data on the GBA Cart in DS Mode. More can be found @ www.themodgods.com. I'm no whizz at this stuff, just passing on what I hace read.

Here are a couple more links on homebrewing the DS. Thats exactly what they are using the Passme device.

Thanks! I found that link with your info....it's not clear when these might see production...looks like the only game that seems to boot it right now is the Metroid Hunters demo. I wonder if there are any certain limitations as to what code/games can operate using this.

Anyway, sorry to threadjack...

I'm looking for any, I mean any, games for the DS that don't suck and if they are homebrewed then thats cool by me. I'm starting to wonder why I bought the system to begin with. (Well not really I want all systems) I know this thread has been tackled before but there are no good games on the DS other then Mario 64, Wario Ware, and Yoshi. I want games for this system that don't suck. If letting other people know about hacking the DS to make their own games then so be it I want those games. I'm not kidding anyone that I even know how to make a game for a system but I know what i like to play and I like the concept of the DS. I just hope people are reading this and are interested and are wanting to be able to make their own games for a new system. I hate seeing a good system go down the drain. Ahh my Dreamcast what lovely memories, lol.

Feel the Magic rocks the house, dude! Check it out!

Mucho replay value, w/ so many levels and difficulties.
