Don't you hate it when you don't find out that a seller only ships on one day a week, until after you've already won something from them? Dammit! Stuff like this is important to most bidders, and should be confessed in the auction listing, not in the email that you receive after you've already won something!

I know! How damn hard is it to ship more than once a week. Every tiny piss poor small town still has mail service. I paid for something on Friday, and get a message that the item will ship on Tuesday. I could see there being a problem getting to the Post on the weekend, but then why not Monday? I actually don't think it would have affected my bidding but it still does suck!~

I usualy ship the same day I recive the money (if its before 4pm that day).
But I can understand that someone only ship once a week.
I have heard from sellers that it takes 15 mins to drive to the post office. If this is true I dont know, but if it is its understandable imo.

The seller should state this in the auction. Lets say he/she sends on wedensday. I wouldnt pay before monday or thuesday then.

I don't think there's anything wrong at all with shipping once a week. I'm well aware of how much of a pain it can be to get to a post office at times, so I'm always understanding with my sellers. I think you guys are just a little too impatient to get your stuff. ;P

As for what they say in the auction descriptions, I don't think it's really necessary to state how often they ship because it can vary. I know for me personally sometimes I get a package sent the very next day after payment, and other times it's taken me a week. I've always assumed that if someone has tons of feedback and they do a lot of selling, then they likely go to the post office constantly. If someone has a smaller amount, like 100 or less, I assume that they're just your average Joe selling a few things, so I don't expect extremely fast shipping. So far these assumptions have proved me well (except sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised with how fast new sellers get their items shipped).

I state in my ads I ship only on the weekends. I work in Cleveland. I live in Mansfield - 70 miles away.

- I leave in the morning at 7 a.m. before the PO opens to be at work by 8:30 a.m.
- No post office near my office, and I'm not going to ship a bunch of personal mail from my office.
- I leave at 5 p.m., to arrive home at 6:30 p.m., long after the PO has closed.

Actual job or not, I still think that if you are going to ship out only once a week you should list it in your auction.

And you should also list your auctions on days that that you know they will end before your shipping day. don't list a auction that ends on a Sunday when your shipping day is Saturday. That is just crap. If you list your shipping day if the auction that will let people know what to expect. Don't be a Asshat and have a auction end on a Sunday and have your only shipping day be Saturday. That is a bunch of Bull F*ck*ng Sh*t.

Most mailmen (or women) will pick up packages that are left in your mailbox. All you have to do is put the little red flag up. If you don't have a mailbox with a little red flag, I suggest you go down to your local WT Walmart and get one! There is no excuse for slow shipping, if that is the way you want to be, either state that in your auction or STAY OFF EBAY!

AGREED! I understand if the seller can only ship on one day a week. It just pisses me off when they don't tell you this in advance. I just won an item that I paid for right away with PayPal. Only then do I get an email telling me their whiny sob story about how they both work two jobs, etc. OK fine, but why wasn't that posted in the listing? Maybe it would've been worth an extra dollar or two to me to buy from a seller who would ship it next day!

Where I live, here in NYC, the mailmen don't even take letters, let alone packages. :P For every single package, no matter how small, I gotta make a trip to the post office (letters I can drop off in the street mailboxes).

As for planning the auction listing times out, I wish it was that easy. Even if I list say 5 items at the same time, I often end up having to make 3 trips to the post office. I get people who pay immediately with PayPal, people who use PayPal a couple days later, and then people sending money orders or whatever which takes varying amounts of time. I'm rarely able to send more than two or three items in one trip, even when doing 10+ auctions at once.

Again, I think you're being impatient. I only expect stores and big sellers to ship within a day or two. When you're talking about an ordinary Joe Schmoe, I'd hardly call one week "slow shipping". Doesn't eBay have guidelines regarding this kind of stuff? I wouldn't even bring up issues about the speed of shipping until two weeks have passed with no item arriving, and I believe that's about what they say too.

This reminds of one auction I did recently. I sold an item, and before I even received the money order, the buyer was getting antsy. It took over a week for me to receive the money order, yet the guy expected me to ship it immediately. o_O I was busy that week and the weather was really terrible, so it took me a few days to get it mailed. I think I ended up getting three or four emails before the package arrived at its destination. Talk about freakin' impatient.

Oh, and if you think not letting people know that a seller only ships once a week is bad, my boyfriend once bought an expensive guitar on eBay and he got an email saying the seller was going on vacation. He had to wait a few weeks just for it to be mailed out, and the auction listing said nothing about it.

HEHE... That happened to me once too. And recently, I even had an item delayed because of Chinese New Year. I guess I should be more patient, but it just irks me when they wait until after I've already won the item to tell me that it will be a while before it gets shipped out. And these people have the nerve to post things in their listings about if they don't get paid within 10 days, all hell is gonna break loose, etc. Well gee, if you expect to get your money so damn fast, don't you think that your buyers expect to get their items fast? And if you have enough time to list all the things that you aren't gonna put up with out of your buyers, then why don't you have enough time to list all the things that your buyers are gonna have to put up with out of you? Granted, their email was very nice and assured me that I would get my item within 2 weeks, a reasonable amount of time. I just don't like being told this sort of thing after I'm already commited to buy from a seller like this.

I still would've bought from them, because they were cheaper than any of the other sellers I found with the same item. Including Amazon.com. And maybe the extra amount of time that I have to wait to receive the item is why they sell it for less. But I would've appreciated knowing ahead of time. I'm not really pissed, just frustrated. However, I suppose I should count my blessings. I'd much rather have them be honest about it right after I pay them than to have no idea what's taking so long and have to get nasty with them after 2 weeks of waiting with no idea what's up before I finally hear their story about what's causing the delay. I've had that happen before too, and this is much less frustrating than that. So I'll still be giving them positive feedback, as long as everything else is satisfactory, and I'm sure it will be. I was just venting a bit, because I was hoping the item would ship next day. And I was just wondering if other people get irritated when this happens.

whine whine whine..

not everybody lives and breathes ebay and the internet..

1 week is not unreasonable, just cos you can now pay "instantly" with paypal from your pc doesnt mean the seller should drop everything running with your package to the post office.

its easy to sit on your backside and click send with the money, how many times have you won an auction and run that same day to post a check out to the seller !!!

not everybody have 24 hour access to the internet.

some people only have access in work or at a freinds house.

funnily enough I just had one tool whinge about slow shipping from an auction that finnished on the 26th feb, he left possative feedback but commented that I was slow posting.. his feedback left on the 4th march. baring in mind that the 27th & 28th were weekend, meaning it took 4 working days for him to recieve his crap !! at least 1 or 2 days in the post so that meant it was posted within 1 or 2 days...JESUS GET A LIFE.

besides that PAYPAL is not instant payment, it takes me 5 days to get the cash into my bank so I can withdraw it, so he actualy got the item before I got his money.

"too many comic book guys"..

some rural postoffices in the UK only open 1day a week

most post offices in the Uk are closed at all the times working people can get to them (9-5) closed for lunch.

do you state in your bids how you are going to pay..no..

Im a buyer and a seller, reasonable is reasonable whichever side of the fence.

Well I still agree with rpepper. If your access to the net and/or to the post office is that limited, then you have no business selling on ebay on a regular basis! It's one thing if you're just selling off some old junk. But when you're doing it as a BUSINESS, and whining about your other two jobs keeping you from running your "business" properly, then get the hell off of ebay or quit your other jobs and be an ebay seller full time! Otherwise you're just playing ebay, playing business owner, and playing your customers for their sympathy. I've actually dealt with people who ran brick and mortar stores that way. They both worked other jobs and considered their store to be a fun little side project for them. So despite what their ADVERTISED business hours were, you'd show up at their store at a time that they were supposed to be open, only to find a note taped to the door saying something to the effect of "sorry, but we didn't feel like dealing with the store today, please come back tomorrow". And they whined about their other jobs all the time too. But worse yet, they refused to hire any help to run their store for them when they didn't feel like dealing with it, despite numerous offers, including one from myself. So what happened to them? They finally wised up and realized that if they weren't gonna take their store seriously, then they had no business even having a store, and they closed it for good. Good riddance! This is no different. If your job prevents you from running your "business" like a real business, then you either need to quit your job or quit your business. Because your paying customers shouldn't have to deal with all your drama!

I dont even message the seller until at least 3-4 weeks and no package yet. Some people need to learn some patience, its not like any of you are bidding on vital organs.

This is the problem with ebay today - buyers want instant gratification when they purchase an item. Ebay is not a store or a business for the majority of sellers. It is a way for them to sell unwanted items and get money in return. The vast majority of people who sell items have 9 to 5 jobs that prevent them from going to the US Post Office during the day. When you are the high bidder, you are not making an instant purchase as you would at Walmart or Target. You are making a promise to pay for the item pursuant to the auction terms. If those terms are not stated, then the terms are either implied by ebay's rules or by what is "reasonable." Shipping once a week is reasonable. If you can't wait an additional 6 days for an item to be shipped, I suggest you go to a store where you can buy the item and walk out with it that very moment. People are so impatient its ridiculous. I see more and more negatives getting left on ebay by noob buyers and impatient pricks because they received an item 10 days after an auction ends, as opposed to the next day.

As stated earlier, buyers pay for the auctions at different times and in different forms. Some pay by paypal right after the auction ends. Others paypal on the last day payment is due. Some send checks or money orders that need to be deposited into an account and clear. You cannot expect a seller to run out every day to mail an indiviudal item just because you may have paid for your item. It makes sense to ship once per week, particularly on Saturday - weeks end and the day after payday. I don't see any problem with it at all.
