Why is a forgettable and terribly average game like Halo getting inducted? Do people form their own opinions now, or is everyone ruled by hype  .

Because not every one shares the same feelings you do.

Well I agree that its a good game, but there's other FPS out there that have done more for the industry. And there's no way it should have been the first game inducted...there's way to many in front of it.

IMO of course LOL

exactly. of ALL the AWESOME genre setting games out there they picked a mediocre FPS that brings NOTHING TO THE TABLE! I think the basis should be on what the game did for the game industry, not "whichever game is more popular at the moment and pushes the most copies".

I can only see this ending up much like the SpikeTV Video Game awards.

I can think of an almost infinite list of icons that should have been inducted before anything to do with Halo, but it makes sense due to the current state of the industry and who voted. It is like N'Sync getting into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, which, though totally ridiculous, will also probably happen. Don't get me wrong, I like Halo a great deal (I am currently on the third novel even), but it is pretty insignificant in the whole scheme of things. XBox is hardly an incredible success. If anything, it is a bit of a scratch on the credibility of this enterprise, and an insult to Bushnell & Miyamoto.

Instead of halo....oh I dunno, DOOM MAYBE? geez..... Or is this ONLY Consle games? Then I GUESS it would make a bit more sense.

I think they did the right thing making it based on popular characters/games as opposed to "genre setting" or "life changing" games. A walk based on a games influence would become a tedious bitch fest.. sort of like the blase "halo sucks" debate.

I never said Halo sucked, I just say that it's a very average game.

I think Kunio should be inducted, but hey, that's just me.

The Hollywood walk of fame is sad enough -_- , I'll never forget the first time I was down there and saw bums sleeping on the stars, not to mention Hollywood is sorta run down in some spots and the stars aren't cared for.

I was across the street from the "walk of game" today and didn't even think it worth it to go see it -_- . They're just floor tiles in an otherwise rather plain building (Ok there is a bunch of sony stores and a movie theater).

I'm not a big Halo fan either, but most people are. It's affect on the industry makes giving it a spot understandable.

There is not a single video game title that has single-handedly sold consoles in the last five years as much as Halo has for the XBox. There are people who play Halo much more than I have ever played any single game in my life. Its sheer fan following is unbelievable.

I think they should allow only games/characters at least 5 years or older. Just think because of hype in '99 Lara Croft would be inducted. LOL Anyone see that pic of Miyamoto? What's up with the splotches on the face, is he ok?

pardon my French here.....

The "Walk Of Game" event on 3/8/05 was.....

FUCKING WEAK!!!

It was totally disorganized and the 'air' was filled with people stumbling around who didn't know what the fuck they were even doing there.

I went with the initial thought that it was going to be pretty cool and that I'd take some photos of the legendary Nolan Bushnell and hopefully Shigeru Miyamoto, but the only person that appeared was Nolan Bushnell, as well as the President of Bungie Entertainment.

They had a live band called Cloud City (or something like that) who performed some decent covers of old video game tunes. A little bit of Mega Man, Ghosts N' Goblins, Super Mario Bros. ..... They weren't bad, but they weren't good either. The interesting part was when they started playing their original material; That was cool, but I wanted to hear more video game covers, not material from a band I've never heard of. IMHO, they were just playing noise. Not music.

If I remember correctly, this is how it went down at the awards ceremony for the 'Walk Of Game Stars'.:

Mario - Some guy in a Mario costume had 2 'eye candy' models at his side while the announcer/MC gave info about the Mario character. The award was accepted by a Nintendo representative. (I don't remember the name of the person)

Sonic - Same as the 'Mario' award presentation, but with a member of the ACTUAL "SONIC TEAM" accepting the award. (I couldn't find out who accepted it)

Halo - The President of Bungie accepted the award.

Link - Surprisingly, no one in a "Link" costume was onhand. The award was accepted by the same Nintendo rep that received the Mario Award.

Nolan Bushnell - He was the mack! He had two models in each arm, was dressed in a nice, dark suit and he wore dark sunglasses.

Shigeru Miyamoto - Again, the same Nintendo rep accepted the award, but surprisingly, this particular 'star' was lifted by none other than the current Mayor of San Francisco; Gavin Newsom.

I started laughing once they asked Mayor Newsom to lift the star for Miyamoto. I mean, what the hell kind of an impact has Mayor Newsom had on the video game community, let alone any involvement with Miyamoto?

I was there probably only about 20-25 minutes before I left. I didn't even take pictures.

Overall, that event was boring. -_-

I wish I could remember what the DOOM Marines name was. A creator of DOOM said in an article once that he actually does have a name. Damned if I could remember it.

The Marine deserves a star after saving the world and all that.

Here's something else that came to mind the other day. I guess it died a good and thorough death?
