What won't the geniuses in marketing come up with next?

http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox/microsoft-xbox/594355p1.html

So the new Xbox console is going to have integrated player databases including "gamer cred" earned by achieving certain goals in games. I suppose that this will be a more direct measure of ePenis length than postcount.

I have to say that it sounds silly to me. But it'll probably be fascinating from a sociological standpoint. I hope that they do something cruel like allowing players to "take" the "cred" points away from other players in online matches. Just imagine the dickheadery that would ensue. Somehow "pulling the plug" to "preserve your cred" seems ironic. But gosh darn I'll be the irony will go right over JefDeth46's head.

And would "cred" from, say, a Hello Kitty game be somehow worth less? (I am referring, of course, to the rumored "Hello Kitty Deathmatch" FPS for Xbox2fer.) Will we see Gamefaqs posts that read like this?

d00d i got 867 mary kate & ashley cred w00t!!1!

thats a pretty good point...you dont see too many games with points any more...coins, rings, unlocks, or character level....stuff like that....but no points...hmmm

Now all I can think of is Hello Kitty with an AK-47 and a Solid Snake bandanna.

In Wolfenstien, you could have 200 points in a match, and be talking hella shit, but everyone would still look at you like a disgrace, because while you were camping the objectives, your teammates with the lower scores were actually, say, out and kicking ass?

I find it tough to see how they're going to implement this. While excelling at a game is one thing, being a personality within a game is another, and I think it's nebulous enough such that a robot isn't going to be able to keep track of it.

Gimmie a break. Anyone with enough time can beat a game or reach an objective realativly quick. Games nowadays are easy. DMC3 and a few others exempt. Gimmie points!!! Ah points..... where have you gone. Play till you die baby! High Score. Fighting games I can see though and shooters. I remember my arcading days when people would lose hundreds of dollars betting on SF2 and MK2. I miss arcades =(

That is one nice hella sweet picture, but back to topic...

Somehow it seems like this is a worthless attempt to bragging rights. This won't lead to something good, just incredibly stupid.

I must invent a new language comprised entirely of superlatives in order to describe just how awesome this is.

"Gaming Cred" = Time wasted that could be used on more innovative things.
