Oh My Gizzod.
forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
I had no idea that the PC Engine CD game scene was the ultimate! Absolutely amazing.
I was trying to do some research on what the best CD games were for the TG-16 and PC Engine, and I'm totally amazed at all the incredible games that I had no idea even existed. I mean, this is like discovering a treasure chest that has been buried for centuries and finding untold riches inside.
First I did a post on here, asking what was the best PC Engine games, and people gave me some great replies. Then I took that list of games and did searches for screenshots. The first place I went was www.vgmuseum.com .
They had a very nice selection, but alot of stuff was missing. Then I discovered this Brazil PC Engine website. Wow! This guy on there did some amazing breakdowns about the best the PC Engine had to offer. Screenshots, reviews, history about the developers that did which games.
Incredible.
I highly recommend people go to this website, and then at the top of the page, click on "CD".
here is the website - www.pcengine.com.br/
Go there, and then go to the CD section. There are 3 sections to choose from. The first one is # to F. The second one is G to Q, the third one is R to Z.
It lists the games from A to Z, and the ones that you can click on, you can see pics and a review and a history of the game and that developer. Pretty amazing.
But the thing is that you have to check out some of the games that was on this thing. So many absolutely amazing games.
Sapphire looks like the most amazing one of the bunch. But you need a arcade hu card to play it, and it goes for a fortune. Spiriggan also looks amazing. Download II looks amazing. Man, there are so many games that look awesome, I can't even begin to list them.
But I"m telling you, this is gold right here. If you have Broadband, take some time and click on a bunch of these games. You will see some absolute state of the art 8-bit graphics with insane color and incredible CD soundtracks.
The PC Engine and TG-16 CD games are just totally amazing.

PC Engine is the shit man.
In Japan, the PC Engine library (CD's and Hucards combined) is just as big as the Famicom's library which I believe is 1200.

I need to go look for a complete list of US-released TG16/CD games. I mean, the shooters obviously could be played in any language, but there seems to be a fair amount of RPGs too. I don't know which ones came out here and which didn't.

Click the Rarity Guide link above.
Select TurboGrafx-16 from the system list.
Select CD-ROM games from the sections list.

It sure is a fantastic machine. One of the best ever created. It's sad that it was so overlooked outside of Japan. Most of the excellent games just didn't make it out to other countries.
I've loved the machine for years. When I was a kid, I dreamed of having a Turbo Express. Fast-forward about 10 years, and I purchased one brand new from TZD. Now, I have a a few TG16 consoles as well (one of which is brand new), and a CDROM system. After a hiatus of a few years (Dreamcast and Gamecube collecting), I'm back to the PC Engine. Her'es what I have so far:
http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/showowns.cmf?userid=6094
I don't have many Japanese games yet, but I'm slowly collecting more every week.
Glad to see that there are other fans here. This system isn't very well known by many people. Most of the games are better than the NES games of the same era.

I think that with the SuperCD's extra ram the PCE is more powerful than a Megadrive actually. The whole 8 vs. 16-bit thing was a marketing thing. Technically, the Intellivision is 16-bit, and the Xbox is 32-bit, after all.
After I got my PCE Duo I went on an importing rampage the likes of which I had never seen before (or at least not since I got a Saturn).
The amount of great import only games on the thing is incredible (mostly SCD).
Here's some of the nice JP only stuff I've been playing (in no particular order):
Spriggan
Nexzr
Star Parodia
Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (River City Ransom)
Ys IV
Double Dragon II
Kaze Kiri
DracX (obvious, but very much worth the money)
Kaze no Densetsu Xanadu 1+2 (often referred to as Legend of Xanadu)
Neo Nectaris (CD version is JP only)
Tengai Makyo II (I'm somewhat JP-literate BTW, might be awfully tough otherwise)
lot's of other stuff.... I would think carefully before putting down the cash for Sapphire though, the graphics are impressive, but the gameplay isn't enough to justify the price IMO (it is rare though).

Quite a bit of info on PC-Engine if you follow my sig as well. Here's a cool book you'll likely never get your hands on:
PC-Engine Best Characters (http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~japangaming/bonus_info.php?type=book&b=pcenginebestcharacters01)
And I dare so no other site has this many PC-Engine flyers (http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~japangaming/flyer_index.php?system=pcengine). Perhaps the coolest one is the Ys IV flyer (http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~japangaming/flyer_information.php?system=pcengine&base=ysiv). That should make any Ys fan touch themselves.

Did you by any chance find a site where you could download TG-16/PC Engine CD Games. Because that would help as some of them are impossible to find.
Two things you must do:
1. Take a deep breath and buy Dracula X. You will not regret it, ever.
2. Get Ys IV, DL the English Patch and play it!
I have a modded Duo and would not trade it for all the sex in the world. :)

On topic....PC ENGINE is the greatest, tons of awesome games! I'm playing Dragon Slayer for the DUO it is great! Another great game is Dynastic Hero (which can be found on the PC Engine DUO for cheap!).

what's so wrong about waiting couple of years till you find the copy you've been after???
I don't know why people asking where to d/l and etc. coz the game is hard to find... ??? Yes it maybe be rare but that doesn't mean you cannot get it...
took me almost a decade to get to where I am now with my collection so don't expect you will get those sought after titles in couple of days...

theres a few missing from that list. Implode and Metero Blasters were released recently, Hawaiian Island Girls, Bikini Girls USA and Local Girls of Hawaii were also released in the US but they arent games. They are super pixelated picture discs of girls in bikinis. Also that list is missing one of the best US shooters... Lords of Thunder. Also Godzilla is missing.
BTW if anyone has Hawaiian Island Girls Im paying $150 for a complete copy.

I have sapphire and am not impressed with it. Spriggan is much better imho. But usually thats the way with expensive games. Drac X PCengien is one of the few $100+ games (non-neo geo) that I think is wortht hat much for the gameplay
Some other stuff Id recommend (obviously im biased toward shooters):
JP ONLY

Yknow what's sad.. is it often felt like I was one of the 2 or 3 people that ever bought TG16 games at my local Electronics Boutique. The machine was the BEST, but it seemed like no one in the U.S. supported it. Why? I have no friggin idea!.... :? Especially when it was around during a time when pretty much the only other players in town were the NES, SMS, and Genesis. It should have gained a much better footing before the SNES came out than it did.
Most of the talk about the time was how it wasn't "true 16 bit". I was like Who gives a flying shit?! Look at these killer games! Coming from an NES to a game like Blazing Lazers was like stepping into a new world.
Ahh well. Shit happens. Incidentally for TG16/PCE the real thing is still the only way to go. Emulation of it is pretty below par considering so many other consoles are emulated so well. Even the mighty magic engine has it's own little glitches. But I guess it's the only way to try out games we don't have.. but if you get a chance to play it on real hardware, do that. It's the only way to travel in this case :)

I am a collector too and would love to get my hands on all of the real TG-16/PC Engine CDs from all regions but as I stated in my post some of these games are impossible to find for sale under $200 and I don't have that kind of money. And in case you didn't notice these games are all abandonware anyways so nobody's loosing out if we want to play old classic games that can't be easily obtained just check out sites like http://www.the-underdogs.org/. and read their disclaimers they feel the same way as many.

hey man, don't sweat it. I think the problem was asking for a download site in the frist place. Obviously that's like dousing yourself with lighter fluid and asking someone to throw a match on you.
If you search google smart or for that matter using a p2p app you may get some here and there. Look into torrents also.
I have pretty much ALL of the rarer/expensive PC engine games with the exception of 2-3 that I need, but will be aquiring shortly. In any event, trying the games before you buy is always the point when using emulation at least it is for me.
I would say that about 60% of the CD/Cart based games that I own have been tried out using emulation. The others I just had to take a chance and buy based on screenshots and user reviews and I haven't really been let down.
So, don't expect to get Sapphire just yet. There is a sealed one on ebay right now, but what's the point of paying all that money if it's just going to stay sealed. I would only buy that if you have another copy to play and you are a big time collector.
Seems like there is a huge influx of PC-engine inquiries lately on the boards. Maybe I should have posted my PC engine auctions now as opposed to two months ago...ahh well...I just hope it won't create too much of a bidding frenzy on some ebay stuff I am watching.
