I was considering getting a wireless controller for my PS2 and I need to know if it will work like a cordless phone where it doesn't need to be pointed in the direction of the PS2. Or if it is like a remote where it needs to be pointed in the direction of the PS2. I ask because my PS2 isn't with the TV it is actually across from it and to the side. Any help will be appreciated.

Remote controls for your television use IR (infrared) technology. IR is directional.

Cordless phones use RF technology, which is NOT directional.

I *think* all newish controllers use RF. There were a few older wireless controllers (like the old dual turbos) that used IR. The new stuff (like Play Messiah's awesome controllers) use RF, and are non-directional.

Wavebirds, Freebirds and the like are RF (non-directional) and should work fine. Hope that helps!

What Flack said :)

However I'll add anecdotal evidence, as I have wireless PS2 controllers. I actually have my system behind a cabinet door as well that I close so that my son doesn't get at the stuff and it's never stopped working.

(The Wavebird *is* the cream of the crop though - I hope the next generation of hardware has 1st party wireless controllers for every machine)
