Harvest Moon Connectivity?

Okay, I've been at this for a month now, and I feel like a total moron. Is there some special trick to get HM: A Wonderful Like to connect with HM: Friends of Mineral Town? I do what the little elves tell me to, but all that happens is my SP loads up Mineral Town as if I turned it on by itself. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? The elves tell me that the pass is blocked, but that I can see what's going on if I hook up the SP.

it is a very long and complicated process to connect the two games. Basically you have to go to that spring in Mineral town and toss something in to get the spirit to appear, and then go talk to the elves in Wonderful Life, and the game connects and transfers things like recepies, and items back and forth.

And then after you transfer so much stuff you unlock a beach cabin or something like that in Mineral Town I think.

There is a pretty indepth FAQ on gamefaqs if you're really interested. But in my experience, the effort and time that you have to put into the whole ordeal isn't worth the items you get, unless you're a completeist and have to unlock everything there is.

EDIT: The Wonderful Life instruction book should give you a very basic rundown of how to connect the two games.

Thanks for the help. All this connectivity stuff seems pretty useless. I only bought Mineral Town and the link cable because of that feature, but it looks like pretty much a waste. Oh well, they're both still pretty good on their own.
