It would seem that Microsoft is releasing an awful lot of information about Xbox Next. They haven't officially came out and said that it would launch in 2005, but the rumors are swirling dramatically. It appears that Microsoft is setting things up for e3 and a huge mega press conference on day one. They leaked a bunch of info at the Game Developers Conference, and then a rumor has been floating around about a November 28th release date for XBOX Next. Everything is setting up for them to drop a bomb on e3 and shock the gaming world with having tons of XBOX Next systems on the show floor with actual playable games, and revealing the actual launch information with the price and date and possible games available the first day.

It appears that Microsoft is deliberately releasing this information, to enter in the subconcious of gamers that are on the fence regarding the PSP. Sure, everybody wants to get a PSP, the thing is sexy as hell and looks like it will play some kick ass games and be a great piece of technology. But it costs $249.99 and you still need to get a game. Buy that package and one game, and after tax you've passed the $300 mark.

Microsoft knows that some gamers are somewhat leary of that, and they want to give them one more reason to think twice about dropping $300 in late March. Maybe they should save that money for late November? 8 months is a long time to wait. But maybe the strategy is to get gamers on the fence to wait simply till e3?

I'm pretty sure I'd rather wait for Xbox Next. I'm kinda meh about handhelds, and the info about the Next has my panties wet.

Passing on both, 2 Xbox games have interested me (and I paid a miniscule amount for one of them, the other was free) the whole time it's been out, and the PSP didn't really impress me either.

Come to think of it, I'm not too fussed for the DS either. The only games I'm interested in with that, I can already play on the GCN or the 64. Er, I mean, OMG EXTRA STARS!!11 :P

No console or handheld has excited me for a while now :( I was mightily disappointed with the GCN and the PS2 has slowly been sneaking into my favour, though.

well, i got my gbc, gba sp, gba sp nes, gc platinum, ds, and will get my psp on launch day....so, you can mark me under the "Will be getting each and every next gen system on launch day unless it is something dumb like the Gizmondo or a new N-Gage....the new Nintendo console, portable, Xbox Next, and PS3 will all be something I get on day 1 if I can."

I'll might get a "Xenon" at launch, as long as it has Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo (which I'm still hoping will be on the current Xbox)

I've decided I will get a PSP some time, but not for a while... at least at its announced price (Lumines, Mercury, and the need to play every Metal Gear game won me over... but its the software *3 titles* not the hardware I'm after)

But after Iwata's *Poetic* Keynote speech, "Revolution" sounds mighty tastey... but thats 2006 and beyond. (Me still need DS too)

...no option for all. So I'm forced to vote for the "Fool, I'm a gamer for life" though only one will be purchased this year, and probably not on launch date.

I'm not getting either without a reason to get them. I don't have anything against XBox, but I can't afford to support every system, and all of my favorite franchises are on PS2 and/or Gamecube right now. I also don't need handhelds, because... well, they're not as practical as they were when I was eight.

I said this in another thread a week ago, but the one feasible scenario where I'd pickup an XBox Next is if XBox becomes "the" RPG console of the next generation. I'm guaranteed to buy whatever system has the best RPGs, but unfortunately, I don't see Microsoft going in that direction at all.

Mistwalker, Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's (thats his name isn't it?) new company, is head over heals in love with Microsoft and "Xenon"... One of the bigger happenings in the past few weeks (other than GDC of course) was the announcement of them teaming up with Microsoft for at the very least, 2 *Japanese* Role Playing Games, exclusive to their next console.

I love my Xbox, so I'd have to go with the Xbox Next. Though unless they offer some kind of deal where I can trade in my old box toward the new one I won't get that at launch either since I just bought my Xbox last November.

The PSP is looking pretty good so far, but I'm not a huge handheld gamer. Eventually I'll end up getting both though.

Neither. I already have my DS, and I'm going to pick up the Revolution soon after it comes out.

Yeah, I'm going with the Revolution too. Not that I hate Microsoft (I have an Xbox) but I'm not fond of Sony (PS2 + DREs + Bad customer support = don't buy).
Anyway, Snapple, apparently you haven't heard of Knights of the Old Republic. Or its sequel. Or Fable. Or the upcoming Jade Empire... OK, you get the point.

I already have ~$600 down on a PSP for the 24th.

I have no intentions of buiyng a Xenon because the Xbox's games generally don't appeal to me. Unless it costs >$100 or somehow starts getting Mario games, I won't bite.

I know all of those games. I said "the" RPG console, not "I'm buying every console with some RPGs on it." I didn't like Fable, and I think KOTOR2 is inferior to its original. So in other words, I think there's only one really good RPG for XBox. Whereas I can name a helluva lot more for PS2. Xenosaga, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, the Nippon Ichi series, Arc the Lad, Kingdom Hearts, etc. That's just my personal opinion, and I think most people would agree that while KOTOR is a solid game, PS2 has more good RPGs than XBox.

That would be the thread I was alluding to in my last post. I basically said that the new about Sakaguchi working with Microsoft was the first reason I'd gotten to buy an XBox. So if I deem that the XBox Next has the better RPGs, I may just consider getting one.

Well, I'm for PSP 100% at the moment, I am counting down the days. So many games interest me!

As for the Xbox 2, well....My current Xbox has been my DVD player for the last 2 years. The only game I can recall playing on it in that amount of time has been Outrun 2. I pretty much hate the Xbox library, I have no interest in 95% of the games. Maybe that has to do with the fact that I couldn't give 2 shits in a barrel about online gaming, I hate sports games and console FPSers.

With that being said, unless they they have a killer launch library, I don't think I'm going to even bother getting the Xbox 2. Why do I need another DVD player?

From buying both the PS1 and PS2 on the day they came out I learned a valuable lesson in saving money... Wait a while till the companies are forced to lower their prices before buying. Thats just the way I HAVE become. I used to be first in line for stuff like this, but now that I have gotten older and married I just dont have that much time for gaming anymore. So I dont see myself getting either for quite a while

I'm making it a personal goal to buy the PS3 and the Revolution on launch day... sure, it may be a waste of money in the long run, but I've never bought a system at launch and damnit, now's as good a time as any.

As for "Xbox Next" or "Xbox 2" or "Xerox" or whatever they're calling it this week, the decision's going to hinge on the backward compatability issue. If there is none, I'm getting an Xbox first, and holding onto my chips until I see what the second one has to offer in terms of solid games.

The only problem with you logic is this...

Say you don't get your PSP until, 2006, 2 years from now when the price is cheap. In between now and when you get it, 50 games come out that you "must have"....while you could be buying them as they come out, you instead have a huge list of games you want. You try and buy all the games you want and you buy em in bulk cause you want em so bad. Then you hardley play em cause you're always wanting to get to that next game.

In the meantime though, Ive bought every game I wanted on release day. I also played and beat them all.

I also realized my logic is really flawed and I just made a really pointless post.

I'm just the opposite. Now that I'm older and have an expendable income, I frequently purchase systems and games on launch day. I don't have as much time for gaming either, which in some roundabout way (see CMOSFM's post) I benefit from playing the new games I want as they come out, as opposed to waiting for the perfect price.

I'm also the kind of guy who never buys anything at launch price. I haven't paid $50 for a PS2 game in a good couple of years.

I like this system, because it also gives me time to reflect whether I really want the game or not. Often times, after waiting six months for a game's price to drop, I realize I didn't really want it, or I get to hear reviews of the game from people whose opinions I trust, so I end up saving even more money.

Of course, this isn't including games I've gotten for Christmas that no doubt cost full price, but my pocketbook definitely thanks me the rest of the time.

Here are the prices:

PSP with $39.99 game to play ---------------------- Roughly $312.57

Xbox Next with $49.99 game to play-----------------------Roughly $377.10

A difference of $64.53

I have to say that if the PSP had a two extra little tiny plugs on it, I would definitely be buying a PSP. The two plugs that I would like would be....

1. A little plug, that on the opposite end, has a plug to accept a Dual Shock Controller

2. A little plug, that on the opposite end, has a plug to accept Sony A/V type cables.

How awesome would that be? Have your PSP hooked up to the big screen at home, using a dual shock and your high powered entertainment system, and then when it's time to go on the road, you disconnect two little cables and take the thing with you. How sweet would that be?

gamenthusiast

yes, you are correct. I myself have been anticipating the PSP, as it is the first handheld that actually performs to the capabilities of a current console. Now with the recent news about the new Microsoft system, I have found myself more interested in that particular system as opposed to the handheld that is releasing in a week or two. I might end up changing my mind about purchasing the handheld, for fear of buyers remorse later on this year.

I bought another Xbox last week and therefore have some serious catching up to do which will take me a while. I won't need an Xbox 2 for a while yet.

PSP? Hand-helds have traditionally been a waste of cash for me, since I don't seem to game-on-the-go. The only big draw for the PSP for me was Turismo....and I ended up not liking Turismo 4. And then there's that problem with the square button.......

I won't be buying either at launch but will buy an Xbox 2 in a year or so.
