I received a debug PS1 today, and nothing was happening when I put a disc in. Taking it apart revealed that the drive door switch was non-operational. At least now I know what was rattling inside. I'd like any advice on fixing this if at all possible.

Crazy glue and the broken piece that was rattling around. If that's not enough, just make a little piece of the right shape out of wood or something and glue that on.

The whole thing crumbled right off as I took a toothpick to maneuver the spring with the power on. Nothing happened. The controller works, but I can't play anything. The drive door switch is now FUBAR though. :( I can't believe it would just crumble away like that.

Any other ideas? Or am I quite screwed on this one?

If you can find a cheap PS1 at a used game store (doesn't even need to be working), you can harvest the spring assembly from that.

Glue the door switch right down, then you can open the machine while its on also. There should be a faq around to help you out. Look up "PSX SWAP TRICK" and just use the instructions they have about the door leaver there.
