I have two mates who both bought a DS on Friday. Between the two of them, they have already been through six consoles!!!

Both have had the same problems, even though they purchased the consoles from different retailers.

Mate A - Bought a DS at lunchtime Friday. Took it home, powered it up, dead pixels. Took it back, got another, but checked in shop. Also dead pixels. Finally got a third one which seems to be fine. Knock on wood.

Mate B - Queued up for the best part of an hour at 11PM Thursday night (After coming out of the pub) and finally got his hands on one. Got it home, same problem - dead pixels. Couldn't do anything about it until the morning though. Took it back, got a straight replacement, and went to Burger King. Decided to have a quick go while he ate his meal, same problem again, more dead pixels. Took it straight back, and got a working one.

So are these just two isolated incidences? Or has anyone else had the same problem?

I know Sony Of Japan stopped taking in faulty PSP's due to too many people claiming dead pixels, so would Nintendo do the same?

I recently had the same problem with one of my GBA SP's. Do they actually test these products before they go on sale???

funny....cause I know at least 15 people who purchased a DS here(in austria) and not a single one had dead pixels(mine included).

anyways.....at least Nintendo takes back "dead pixel"-DSses even if it has just one dead pixel.

and no, I don't think Nintendo would stop their customer friendly service.

Yeah it has been a frequent occurance all over the world even in later launches such as Australia and probably Europe too.

I actually though I had a few dead pixels, but I dont think they are anymore, probably black shit from the stylus...but it did scare me lol.

I am still a bit pissed that I got one of those chinese made DS's  Is there any real disadvantage to owning one of them?

Well basically at the back of my DS, it says "made in China", instead of Japan. I think Nintendo opened up a factory in China to cope with the DS launch demand.

I know its no big deal but Nintendo is Japanese not Chinese, dammit! @_@

It's been an issue across all devices in recent times with LCD screens. The screens shouldn't ever make it to Nintendo with a dead pixel, let alone to the consumer. There was a serious shortage of LCD screens for a really long time (not sure if there still is) but the QA on them has certainly gone down the shitter.
