I bought a 3DO and some games on eBay about a year ago. Most of the games that were part of the lot I won suck. Any good games for the 3DO system? What was the worst?
Some of the best Jaguar games have been those published by Songbird since the system's demise. Are there any 3D0 homebrews?

Well i have had my 3do fz-1 for about 10 years now and about 50 games
the really good games are shockwave shockwave operation and shockwave 2 witch is one of the best sci fi games that needs to be remade and the stroy continued.
gex is good
fighting games like super street fighter 2 turbo way of the warrior witch is funny not the best fighting but still fun ballz
killing time is a good 3d first person shooter that uses full motion video people to help you and give you clues
monster manor another good first person shooter
madden slam and jam fifa need for speed
another game that i like but lots of people hate is immercenary were you are in a digital world and have to defete the perfect one.
its very hard but has alot of hours since you start off with little life and need to fight its like an rpg
and Lucienne's Quest a true rpg hard to find
studio 3do games are really good
some bad games are
Total Eclipse icebreaker but the worst has to be War of Succession a very very bad fighting game
there are a lot of good games thats all i can thank of off the top of the head for right now

I've recently been getting more and more into my 3do. I'm probably gonna go for a complete collection someday. When I lived in Florida a friend of mine had tons of systems and the 3do was one of em. I remember playing the horde, escape from monster manor and others and really enjoying the system back when it came out. While some of the games hold up horribly today, a few that I own which I really enjoy and recommend are:
Alone in the Dark
Flashback
Gex
Hell
Icebreaker
Incredible Machine
Road Rash
Star Control II
There's lots more I've been wanting to try but haven't found yet. While looking through the rarity list for the 3do, I noticed one of my favorite sim games I used to play in one of my classes was released on it, Dinopark Tycoon. I never even saw a copy for it anywhere for sale on the pc at any store and it so happens the game is an R8 and apparently the rarest game for the system. Kinda sucks cause I'd love to give it a whirl again.

Thanks for the info! I have ICEBREAKER and SHOCKWAVE 2: OPERATION JUMGATE, but haven't played them yet.
Anyone here try BC RACERS on the 3DO? I loved it on the 32X (I'm one of the few people, in seems, who likes this game). The 32X version, which is a cartridge game, plays well but is grainy as is possible for any game, regardless of system.
It was developed by Core Design. I was just wondering if it looks any better on the 3DO.

I dont have bc racers but the 3do system would be the one i would get i think it has a bigger screen and isn't fuzzy and has full motion video clips and may run smoother
if you like sci fi then you will love shockwave 2 its the best of the series
if you like racing theres
off world intercepter and return fire wicth are great two player games also

Star Control II
Ironically enough, I'm playing through Star Control II again now and have given my 3DO a re-spin over the weekend.
The Star Control II replay is re-cementing that games place among the best games ever made. The story is so unbelievably good it puts most sci-fi fiction to absolute shame. It's one of the rare games where you'll be eating up the back-story just because it’s so damn intriguing to discover the motives for each of the alien races. Complex doesn't begin to describe some of the interactions.
And I completely forgot just how scary the Orz really are. Forget the Ur-Quan, I’d take 3 dozen of those freaks any day over the Orz. War makes strange bedfellows.
Top all of this wonderful story with a huge heaping of strategy, hours and hours of exploration possibilities, and an extremely fun combat system and you have yourself a game for the ages.
While I haven't played the "Ur-Quan Masters" remake, I can say that the 3DO version will play every time with no config.net/autoexec.nt manipulation. And you've got to play it on CD just to hear the Spathi's voices. I've beaten this game 3 times and I still have a dozen laugh out loud moments with some of the racial interactions.
As for the worst; Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. Hands down one of the worst "games" I've ever played. And calling it a "game" is generous. More a series of pictures with a bad acting track than an actual game.
Oh, also ran through Space Ace, some say the CD-i version is best. All I can say is the 3DO version is pretty awesome as far as I'm concerned.

Shadow: War of Succession has to be one of the most truly worst games of all time. It is bad, the controls are bad, it just screams bad. Seriously, you have to play it :) .....or try to play!

even though it was ported over and released on ps1 and saturn,i believe roadrash for the 3do was the best.also, guardian war is a good rpg that you should be able to find for cheap.

Do yourself a favor and get Road Rash. Great game with an incredible soundtrack (for its time, although I still like it).
Need for Speed was a good game when I had the system...that was about 8 years ago though, so I don't know how well it'd hold up.
As for worst games, probably the many live action shooting games that were released for the system, although I did like Mad Dog McCree as a guilty pleasure. And there was this one weird anime influenced game that was released that played sort of like Dragon's Lair called Stahl or Strahl or something along those lines. I liked that game, but tread with caution, as your motives may vary.

Slayer is great !!!
A personal favorite of mine is digital dreamware. This is just a music player with 6 songs that plays the music to a phycedellic background that you can control. The music is absolutely amazing (for its time anyway)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Alone in the dark
Bust-A-Move
Gex
Need for Speed
Policenauts
Road Rash
Return fire
Wolfenstein 3D0
Star Control II
I am sure there are more good games

There's more good titles then you'd think
Killing Time
Gex
Road Rash
Wolfenstein 3d
Soccer Kid
Phoenix 3
AD&D Slayer
Shockwave (series)
Battle Chess
my personal favs
Stay away from Doom! Great music, but that's it, the only way that game is any good is if you have a TV 45'' or bigger

So far everyones giving you good advice for good 3DO games. The best games in my collection are probably GEX, Alone in the Dark, Road Rash and Wolfenstien 3DO (Best name for a port in history) but i strongly recommend you try a little game called D.
It's not a very long game but it is really fun. Personally it's one of my favorite FMV/Myst like games. It's got a great feel. Look for a copy if you can find one. You may find one cheap on ebay but if you don't you can find a new copy in the Goat Store (http://www.goatstore.com).

A lot of good posts friends and fellow gamers! I do have the Digital Press Price Guides. Checking it reveals that I do in fact have several good games. I'll have to give them a try.
Three questions. The entry for FATTY BEAR'S BIRTHDAY SURPRISE says that it's a sequel to FATTY BEAR'S HOMO-EROTIC SEXCAPADE. 1) Contrary to the price guide, I DO want to know the surprise; 2) What console did "Sexcapade" appear on? And finally, 3) What's up with Fatty Bear?

Thanks for the plug :)
I was just going to suggest Guardian War and Burning Soldier as two games that others like that can be had cheaply, along with the Shockwave series. You can find all of those at the GOAT Store for $6.00 or less.
Other than that, I was really fascinated by Psychic Dective. Yes, it's an FMV game... but an FMV game done right.
The Incredible Machine is, well... Incredible. One of my favorite games, and the reason I keep the console (that, and Lost Eden which I love too, although others may disagree.)
Return Fire is great.
Need for Speed was quite cool.
PO'ed is a decent first person shooter. I guess it probably isn't that good, but it is funny enough I liked it.
Soccer Kid is a great little 2D platformer, in my opinion. Songbird did release the Jaguar port of it, but it is an official release here.
Return Fire is just great.
Quarantine is the prequel (?) to one of my favorite games ever, but it plays worth absolute crap. I guess I just wanted to voice my displeasure in it.
And avoid Jurassic Park Interactive like the plague. If you have the choice, the plague is probably more fun.
Good luck!

As far as your question on wether BC Racers would look better or not, I would have to say yes. I have recently been playing Flashback and everything looks so much more sharp and fluid. The gameplay itself looks better, but MAN, are the cutscenes ever improved. Much better than the 15 or so fps grainy video of the sega cd. Stopped playing at New America though cause my 3do's sound is messed up and doesn't play right channel. =\.

Personally, I feel that the 3DO is one of the greatest systems of all time. It is true that it doesn't have the greatest library but its good games were revolutionary at the time and are timeless today.
Some of my favourites are:
The Need for Speed
Road Rash
Demolition Man
Shockwave
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Fifa International Soccer

One thing the 3do had going for it was the EA games since trip hawkins created ea and moved on to make the system they could try out there best games for the genesis and put it to the test with a cd format for the 3do.
1. madden is still one of my favorite football games
2. need for speed was great
3.road rash with the visuals and songs made it a huge hit and more sequals for other systems.
Wing Commander and Super wing commander are great games and work even better if you have the fight stick pro
Phoenix 3 is a good 2d action adventure
and D is a good game but i think the 3do version is the best the playstation version had to redo all the sound and voice acting since panasonic wouldn't hand over the audio so the playstation version has different dialog so the lips do not say the same thing as whats coming out on the playstation version.

I would repeat Return Fire and Return Fire Maps o' Death as the best 2 player games I have played on any machine.
Also, Blade Force and Killing Time.
One weird one I couldn't stop playing was a little known EA title called Immercenary- slow, weird but very cool in its own right- Also, sure it wa mentioned but Starfighter absolutely rocked for the time-

Ok, lets see, I've owned my 3DO since day 1 (yes, I bought it for THAT price) and bought most of the great games on the system on their release day so, that said, here are some of my picks and opinions on others.
Recommended:
SHOCKWAVE
SHOCKWAVE: OPERATION JUMPGATE
SHOCKWAVE 2: BEYOND THE GATE
The first Shockwave and the expansion pack for it (Operation Jumpgate) were available for the PSX, Saturn and PC as Shockwave Assault. Part 2 was only available on the 3DO.
ROAD RASH
Also released for the PSX and Saturn. Basically identical to the 3DO version except you could actually listen to the licensed music during the game itself, unlike the 3DO version where you ould only hear them during menus and cinemas
GEX
Again, released for PSX and Saturn.
TWISTED
SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO
POLICENAUTS
THE HORDE
RETURN FIRE
BUST A MOVE
As cheesy as they are,
NIGHT TRAP
Best version of Night Trap
SNOW JOB
Not as bad as some say
Those are mine. I actually don't like Need for Speed. Never really seemed very fast moving.
Also, BC Racers on the 3DO is actually SLOWER than the Sega CD and 32X versions. Yup, surprised me too. Should have run smoother, but didnt.

LOL, I just read you link for your recommendations and saw you too are an original owner. First person in a long time to see who bought it too at that price. Its nice to meet a fellow "original" *sniff sniff* :) I dont have the receipt anymore, but I still have the box in great condition with the massive Electronics Boutique price sticker on it to remind me of how much it was LOL I still remember the guys I knew back then in there were like "Wow, you're actually buying it?" Then again, they were always amazed when Id be nice and bring in some demo cds for the import Saturn and PSX to show them on the systems in the store. They even chuckled at me when I bought Snow Job..hmph! Even though it still ranks as the most ive paid for a system (still beating out my Panasonic Q and JVC Wondermega!), It still gets more love then my N64 *gives evil eye to N64*

I was actually moonlighting at a local EB that holiday season. I think the store got 8 of 'em, I put one on hold for myself thinking "Ha ha! Lucky for me I work here and have DIBS!". Ha ha indeed.
Do you remember those first excruciating months? I'm sure you played Crash 'n Burn (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=15503) as incessantly as I did (that game actually holds up pretty well today, don't you think?). Then there was the "ooh and aah" factor of the crisp (for the time) video you got on the demo CD and the aggravation of finding it was just a small clip from the Batman Animated Series (how about a whole episode ya bastards). Then the agony of Mad Dog McCree (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=15474) using what was essentially a 4-way controller, followed by the agony of Shelly Duvall and Fatty Bear being the next releases.
My first really happy moment was when Escape from Monster Manor (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=15306) was released. It WAS the first really good game on the 3DO.

Hello, I've been considering getting a 3DO but I'm not sure...
Anyone have a list of pros/cons for the system and if it's worth picking up on Ebay?
Thanks, because I know almost NOTHING on the system.
I do remember along time ago haivng fanboy wars with my friend, for Saturn vs 3DO(I was for Saturn she was for the 3DO). LOL
/Stupid question, Does the 3DO have better video/audio capabilitys then the Saturn?

The store here in NYC that I got it in only had TWO! Oh MAN, do I remember those first months! LOL Yup, I played the hell out of Crash n Burn. The only real major problem with it was the not-so-great handling of the car (I'd feel like sometimes some mysterious magnet was pulling my car to the sides). You could the tell the game was a bit rushed since, on some the tracks, the scenery on the sides of the tracks were non-existent! I thought they were MEANT to look like that, but I had read an interview a few years later with the guys from CD and they confirmed the game wasnt technically finished but they were pressured to get a game out with the 3DO release. Still, I agree, a lot of it still looks good today.
I was so amazed with the sampler cd. That nice, clean piece from Batman (I also hoped it was a full episode, but it just faded away lol), those teasers for Shockwave, Madden, Road Rash, Jurassic Park, etc. Remember they have some really crappy "racing" game on it? It has some funky sound effects. LOL It still makes me laugh when I throw it on. After seeing the quality of the footage, and I had heard Mad Dog was coming out, I was like "Wow, its gonna have some sharp looking video"......man, was i disappointed! Even chunkier video than I expected and really bad controls. Tsk Tsk. Total Eclipse was so-so also. The beginning was also chunky, but the game was just hard for me and boring, though it did look nice for the time. The first ones I started enjoying were Escape from Monster Manor, Twisted and, oddly enough, Night Trap. I guess I liked it more because it had really nice video compared to the Sega CD version (thus why I just recently tracked down another copy of it). Soon after would come Shockwave (a good game, with really nice cinemas!), Madden and so on.
The few odd stand outs for me personally (beyond my recommendations) are:
POLICENAUTS - (nice to see 3DO COULD make such a nice game! the 3DO version has different artwork in many places over the PSX and Saturn versions plus I got this with the very nice Policenauts mouse pad and the elegant 3DO mouse)
I actually have 2 Photo CDs for the system and they are pretty well done
WOODY WOODPECKER -Just 4 full episodes of the cartoon, and although the video isnt perfect, its pretty good for full screen MPEG on the 3DO. Still watchable today.
SNOWJOB - The last 3DO game I bought in a store on its release date. Again, I just tracked down another copy and look forward to playing the game again :)
P.S. - Do you also remember the infamous non-release of The 11th Hour? It was "soon to be released" for like 2 years then it vanished! LOL
P.P.S. - Damn, this has to be my longest post ever! LOL *sigh* Memories.....

Yeah i remember when i got the 3do playing super street fighter 2 turbo and knowing the super nes doesn't have the super shadow moves or akuma all my friends were jealous.
We use to have tournaments for return fire and madden
The funny thing is i had my name down on pre order for the m2 every couple of months i would call and they would say its coming but never did
The pros with the system is theres alot of gems
the shockwave series but shockwave 2 beyond the gate is only for the 3do and its the best of all
Immercinary is for me one of the best adventure titles it takes a bit to get going but wants you do it hard to stop
Killing time is a good first person shooter but the 3do wasn't the best at 3d but diffrent
it has alot of family games like twisted and family fued and golf pga 96 which my family still play today
foes of ali is a good boxing kinda slow but most sports like madden fifa slam and jam are great
a couple of rgps
Guardian War
Lucienne's Quest classic but hard to find
and Virtuoso a weird rocker in a virtual world and you listin to rock music while battling aliens on mars or in a hunted house diffrent.
there are a lot of gems on this system some people hate but you may love its just your tast of games
and the quality isn't bad for the 3do some games are better then others the cdi has a mpeg 1 card so games look real nice the goldstar 3do has an mpeg1 card for it.

What is your experience with the CDX? I have noticed alot of broken and "as is" listings for the standard CD-ROM add-on drive on eBay. Also, none of my friends have a working add-on drive. It appears the add-on drive was none too reliable. I have never come across a Genesis that didn't work so I hope the CDX, being an all-in-one unit, is more reliable than the add-on drive.

Well, Ive had the CD-X since last summer and I've tried all my games on it and they played perfectly. The lid flips open with no problems and doesn't stick either. It's odd to hear about the Sega CD units. I bought my front loader on the actually release day back in 92 and it still works flawlessly.

That's good to hear. :) I myself have had very good experience with Sega gear. The only problem I have ever had with ANY Sega console was the first Dreamcast I bought on launch day. It would only read 1 out of 3 discs. I took it right back to EB. They replaced it, and I haven't had any further problems. I remember Sega recalled an early batch of Dreamcasts because of this drive problem.
My very first Sega console, the Master System (Model 1) I bought in 1986. It still works perfectly. It even plays European PAL format SMS games with no mod chip needed. By contrast I've had three NES Model 1's die on me. I realize that they probably just need to be cleaned (although my model 2, the top-loader, has never failed. I've never cleaned it either).
My model 2 Genesis - no problems (never cleaned).
My Genesis 32X - no problems (never cleaned).
My Nomad - ditto!
My Saturn - ditto!
By contrast, in attention to my three model 1 NES's, my brother has had an Xbox die in a puff of smoke (the power supply blew-up). He called Microsoft. They told him there was nothing they could do.
I can't remember if it was the PS2 or Xbox, but I remember reading in one of the gaming mags that one of those consoles would get confused if you played too many movie DVDs. After playing the movie DVDs the console in question wouldn't play games. Yikes! :eek 2:
Then there's the original PlayStation. There was an over-heating problem. Sony's answer? "Turn your console off every hour or so and let it cool down" (or words to that effect), Can you imagine if Sega thought that way when it launched the Dreamcast. "Having trouble getting some games to boot? Your console will only play 1 out of 3 discs? Well, just play the one's that will boot". LOL Sega reacted quickly and replaced all defective consoles. God I miss Sega!!! :( I hope one day their fortunes will reverse and they will come out with another console. X_x
Darn! There goes another rant power-up!

guys, I need some help here.
I want to rip off the music from my Killing Time CD (hopefully in CD quality) to my pc. Is there a way I can do that?
Killing Time's soundtrack is the best in my opinion, from that era. Its so freaking underrated!

The best 3DO game EVER has got to be Star Control II, without a doubt. No questions asked. It has awesome single player and it also has really fun multiplayer. No other game offers that level of gameplay in both single and multiplayer. To all of those Star Control II fans that haven't experience the Super Melee mode with a bunch of friends, you have only experienced half of what Star Control II has to offer.
Runners up would be:
1. Hordes: from the guys that made Star Control II, Toys for Bob, note it is far more quirky, funny, and silly than SC2... but it has a charm to it that is unique to Toys for Bob.
2. Return Fire/Maps-o-Death: single player lacks, but multiplayer is where this game shines. I like to think of it as an arcade-like RTS or an action-RTS.
3. Super Street Fighter II Turbo: still a great game, even today, and it is the best and final SF2 game. It is identical to the arcade, with the exception of the loading times. Don't forget to get a 6-button controller. I personally use SNES to 3DO adapters.
4. Quarantine: cult classic. Horrid graphics, but interesting and worthwhile game nonetheless. It is like a cyberpunk Crazy Taxi or GTA, and it has a unique sound track.
5. Alone in the Dark: this is the game that Resident Evil ripped off. Seriously, Resident Evil is nothing more than Alone in the Dark with better graphics. You have to give the original credit where credit is do, so play it already!

Good 3DO games that I have played include:
Strahl
Twisted
Staiton Invasion
Lucienne's Quest
A Japanese Yu Yu Hashuko fighting game
Shockwave games
Snowjob
Both Alone in the Dark and Alone in the Dark II (they run a little slow, but it's probably easier than getting them for PC and getting them to work)
Captain Quazar
Space Pirates
Space Ace and Dragon's Lair ports

We're busting out the 3DO system for this weekend's NAVA get-together at the store and I had to track this thread down. Interesting seeing my thoughts even seven years ago. The bad games continue to age badly and the good games continue to shine.

Looking forward to sharing some new 3DO experiences with friends tomorrow and curious to hear how forum members who were not around when this thread started feel about the system and its games.

3DO has some gems for sure!
While they're far from arcade perfect Dragon's Lair and Space Ace aren't QUITE the travesty that they were on Sega CD. The 3DO versions are closer to the first PC CD ROM versions.
I also recall enjoying Twisted The Game Show with friends ... though last time we fired that up at the store it seemed to be a bit more confusing and slow paced than I remember it.
I'm still trying to find the magic in Way of the Warrior that I know you see ... its no Kasumi Ninja (that's a good thing) but I could never get over the brutal difficulty and the unresponsive special moves.
Looking forward to revisiting some of Trip Hawkins' finest.

Seems like very few people mentioned Bust-A-Move. What there's not a lot of puzzle game fans here? While the arcade and home versions of Bust-A-Move are much different, 3DO has the definitive home port.

Recently I have been fleshing out my 3DO collection, though haven't had any play time with it (my system is in storage).
I am surprised to see a number of games at or around $100 complete - not mint. Games I had not heard of until I started checking them off: games like Lost Eden or Robinsons Requiem.
It also appears that Lucienne's Quest may have achieved grail status judging by recent ebay auctions.
