Dude I'm going to be sick, I made a personal goal that I was going to beat Dragon Quest V on the Super Famicom and I was doing it with no translation or FAQ in japanese (I can't speak a word of it). I ended up using a FAQ to check what the story was doing but didn't expect to do this.......
..........I ACCIDENTALLY ERASED MY FRICKIN GAME!!! Oh man, my guys were all in level 45 to 50 I was seriously getting into it. I had 2 really tough swords from the casino.....BUT IT'S ALL GONE!!!! WTF!
I don't think I can do it again, not backtrack everything I just did 2 or 3 weeks ago...not in japanese............NOOOOO :angry:
Anyone know where I can get a translated version of this and DRAGON QUEST 6 on a cartridge (not a dumb ROM). A professional game made for people who own the actual cartridges and want translated version to put into a real video game machine.

Sorry, I was just pissed at what happened, not at buttasuperb. Nelson's a lump though.

They do.
And Drwilly you're seriously missing out on a great game, I'm sorry you refuse to play it however because it's just a "dumb rom". I know I would much prefer a cartridge myself, but sometimes a translated rom's your only option.
The story of DW5 easily ranks up there with DW4, and is personally my second favorite game of the series. It's kinda got that whole Phantasy Star 3 generations thing going on with it. I wish they would have released the PS2 remake in the US. :/

The PS2 remake comes out in Japan on March 25th. So there is still hope. We'll see though.
I want a cartridge like my Earthbound Zero, I dont care if I have to pay to have it custom made. I also want Dragon Quest 6.
I played the translated patch for DQ5 and it was a great game, but I've never had luck on ROMs they are always buggy. My DQ5 rom (like 2 years ago) would crash every time I looked in a pot or dresser. Numerous other problems too. I also had a Seiken Densetsu 3 that was REALLY buggy, so I just have a bad taste for them.

Yeah, I kinda figured it was some mods idea of a joke. By no means a "noob" though. I've been a lurker on this site for a LONG time, a collector since the 80's, and a gamer since the 70's.

Playing the game without a translation seems like unwanted stress. I also think playing the rom is a good idea. When you actually know what you're doing, what the dialogue, spells, actions, and items all mean, it's really not that hard of a game to get through. The first time I beat the game, it took me four days, and I wasn't particularly playing nonstop. That's the difference English makes.
I couldn't imagine trying to figure out the forest maze without being able to read the clues.
The translation is good, too.
But, if you're adamant about playing in Japanese, then start over a new game. Maybe use new characters and pick a different wife so that it all feels fresh again. There's no shame in using a guide either.
I myself used the hero, a Slime, and a Slime Knight as my party the first time though, and it worked pretty solidly. There seems to be a lot of viable and unique party formations, which is why DQ5 is my favorite of the series. I even prefer it to the job system in DQ6.

Well, if you get the translated ROM, its probably possible to put it on one of them EEPROM chip things. Then just insert that into an exiting cartridge (the original?) and play it.
I have no idea how to do this, but I think its possible.

A super wild card is a backup device for the SNES. The Game Doctor SF7 is generally regarded as the best SNES backup system. Tototek.com still sells them. I would suggest to anyone that wants one to pick one up here. They are the only known place online still selling them. Also, Tomy makes his own ram for them, and you probably would have a very difficult time finding original ram to max these babies out. His prices are very reasonable. Check it out!
