Mah Jong for SMS

found a copy. physically identical to regular domestic games. no box though. also, why cant I find info on it? is it Hong Kong only maybe?

It's the Mark III game 'Mahjong Sengoku Jidai' in a Western-style cart (and box, when complete). And yes, it's a Hong Kong release.
It''s going to be included in the SMS section of the database as soon as I submit the updated file I'm working on ;)

Nice score! It's one of the handful of non-Japanese SMS carts that I'm still looking for.

i believe i have this game,mint and complete.the box says:mak-jong,the sega mega cartridge on the front,and the spine of the case is blue and is in japanese or chinese.but the cartridge actually says mah-jong.i havent actually played it,just popped it in to make sure it worked,but it is an import game,all dialog is in japanese or chinese.i got it pretty cheap,and its a good addition to my sms collection.

I remember seeing a post about this cart a LOOOOOOng time ago. As I remember it was quite a stir because almost no one had heard about it. Very rare game.

isnt Shanghai a Mahjong game for the sms, it could be that

The Shanghai game for SMS uses the Mah Jongg tile set but it's more of a matching game (pair up same titles) rather than a real Mah Jongg game/sim.
