Ok I have an Atari here and it's missing a "power adaptor" which is a let down because I was really looking forward to see if this thing worked. Where could I find just a power cord?

I know that's probably a vague question, I don't even know if Atari came in diffrent models. But any help would be appreciated.

My boyfriend's mom found a crate of his old video game stuff in her storage unit and I took it all home to clean it up. Again after detangling the cords my hands were black. We got an NES toaster (with a hidden copy of Mario/Duck Hunt still inside :P), Genny model one (With Altered Beast), and an Atari. I have the other systems already but the Atart is really kind of exciting because I haven't played one since I was four. :P

She also found a shoebox of Atari games (including pacman wee!). So again I'm really looking forward to getting this sucker working again.

www.vidgame.net has a guide to what power adapters work with what systems. Failing that, there's gotta be someone around here with an extra Atari brick. Hell I might have one somewhere.

Oh ok it's a Atari 2600 1978 Six Switch (CX-2600) then. (:

You can buy a universal power adapter at the drug store that will work. If you dont want to be patient and wait for an atari-branded adapter that is.

Hey

Basic 9 volt. Radio Shmack has 1 amp replacement universals that work better than the original. Actually like previously mentioned many places carry these power adapters.

Okay Stonic's AC adaptor arrived today but I just wanted to double check something before I fry my machine. The power adaptor he sent says it's:

Input: 120v 60Hz 9W
Output: 9VDC 300mA

While Videogame.net says I need:
Input 110-130V AC60Hz 17W
Output 9v 500mA

Do the other numbers not matter as they're both 9 volt?

Don't worry about your input voltage. That power supply is very similar to what I'm using right now.

300 mA for the power supply is pretty low and the adaptor may be underpowered. You may cause the adaptor to overheat if you plug it into the 2600. I don't know how much current the 2600 draws and so I don't know if 300 mA is adequate or not.

Even if the 2600 works with that underpowered adaptor you may risk fire by using it over a long period of time. Plugging the adaptor into the 2600 even briefly may blow the internal fuse of the adaptor (assuming it has one) and render it useless.

It's better to be safe than sorry. Find an adaptor that delvers a minimum of 500 mA.

Yes

Altairboy is right. Under amperage is not as bad right off the bat but if it can't supply the current draw it will overheat and something will melt inside.

You can always use a supply rated at a higher amp level without a problem.

Alright so I'll need a replacement. It did however work last night, long enough for me to test the games anyway. Turns out one of the labeless games was Frogger. Wee!

Also there was another game without a label that I don't recognize. At first the screen kind of resembles Pacman. There's a maze, and some little monsters patrolling it. The goal is to trace as many complete squares as possible, when you do they shade in blue and you get points.

It was actually pretty fun. Just no clue what the game is.

It's Amidar. Well, it's supposed to be Amidar. LOL

If you like the horrible (and I do mean horrible - it's slow, sounds bad and has flicker to beat the band) 2600 version, you should try the arcade version - it's awesome.

Yep, it's Amidar. I owned the 2600 port back "in the day" before ever playing the arcade version, so I wasn't that disappointed with it. It actually can be kinda fun -- but it is really, really slow. The arcade original blows it away, however.

Oh well... there was an Amidar label in the box. But I didn't see what the little tick like monsters had to do with the giant ape or the clown. O_O

Actually I do like the game though, so *shrugs* I'll check and see if I have the other version for mame later. Thanks for the suggestion.
