I'll take this oppertunity to moan at the backwards steps we are takinging from analog CRT television.

Digital TV in the uk has only taken grip in the past 4-5 years realy. and its quality is attrocious, and thats nothing to do with signal stregnth (which is another frequent problem) its the compression software, its so blocky especialy on certain channels (ITV and BBC) makes a soccer match almost unwatchable when large areas of the field are shown, and due to compression does not get updated as frequently as moving imagary, until the ball gets kicked accross it.

And to make it worse we now have to pay extra to watch the premier soccer matches in this god awfull way, since the likes of skyTV bought the rights to the major games.

And you know what its our fault, (well not mine) if the idiots who keep paying sky for premier matches and boxing, then sky will keep putting them pay per view.
if the mass stop paying, then they will return to the free to air channels where they once belonged..

I totally agree. I can barely watch any digital stations. It's even worse on an HDTV where everything shows through even worse. I laugh when I see those commercials touting "All digital, all the time." Hey, that's great that the resolution is better. I'd still watch a standard cable signal for all the reasons you mentioned.

Yes, I would much rather have a tiny sprinkling of RF noise than loads of MPEG artifacting and washed out colors. God, digital cable sucks. And it's mostly because they just try to crank up the compression as high as they fucking can to send even more premium channels down the pipe that you don't get anyway unless you pay about $800 more. OH BOY SIGN ME UP. I WANT TO SEE THE LATEST 1ST RUN MOVIES IN WORSE QUALITY THAN BOOTLEGS VIDEO TAPED FROM THE THEATER!!!

I'm in Chicago at the quality of the HD here is amazing. I love watching all my shows in HD and every once in a while the sound will screw up but thats about it. In fact, every time I watch standard cable it looks so grainy and disgusting, I'll never go back.

I think the complaints are against digital cable, not HDTV-two different things.

yep!
I have no complaint with our Aussie FTA DTV, especially with HDTV.
We've been on DTV since last 2002 when we bought our first PDP and there's no way we are going back to ATV... :p

My fab is CSI in full HD glory...
