Shipped yesterday, available today. I picked it up and am currently loving it to death. It's only 29.99 too! :)

It's taking a while to get used to all the moves and such, but I'm getting it down, getting those high scores are pretty hard until you get em down packed.

Anyone else grab this up today?

I also picked this up today, but I am at work, thusly, I've yet to try it.

I debated between this and Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, but I don't have the extra funds right now, so I had to go with Yoshi.

Looking forward to playing it - I'm happy that only one good DS game has been coming out per month. I've actually been able to sit down and complete each game before I buy a new one - a great feeling.

I'm going to get it tomorrow, and I can't wait!

Now I'm debating whether to get Pokemon Dash (not likely), that retro Atari collection (not likely), or Ape Escape PSP. Decisions, decisions...

Whoa, out already? I'll have to pick it up later this week.

I pretty much slaughtered Wario Ware Touched :bawling:

That's what I'm loving about it. Even if two or three come out a month It's great because I'm able to actually COMPLETE them, something I have been lacking as of lately with consoles.

I plan to pick up Atari Retro Classics and POSSIBLY Pokemon Dash soon, Pokemon Dash looks pretty weak, but eh....what the hell. :D

Hmm...can anyone give me an idea of what it plays like? i've heard that it's a "play for your highest score" type game, with no real ending. Is that true?

I plan on gettin it after work, if its not sold out, like wario ware was when it came out. Was considering pokemon dash but after reading reviews I'm thinking thats a no go.

I love the game! It's a little slow during points when there's not much action, but overall it's a good arcade-feel with the "get as many coins/yards" as you can sorta deal. I picked up pokemon dash as well, reluctantly, and I'm actually enjoying this game a little more than Yoshi. Pokemon Dash is more complicated than it looks with a few different aspects of the gameplay, though the formatting of it is very similar to Mariokart.

Okay, I just picked this up a couple hours ago. The easiest way to describe it is Gumshoe (NES) meets Yoshi's Island. For real. It's tougher than it looks, too. I still have yet to fully experience the amount of variety in the game, since I kind of suck as yet. Heh. Anybody who is on the fence about getting this should probably just go buy it now.

Oh, there's one really neat feature that needs to be standard in all DS games. You can enable Pictochat monitoring. What this means is that if anybody in range enters a Pictochat room, you are notified with a little icon on screen. Then you can exit the game, go to Pictochat, and force them to play against you with download play. Very very cool.

I picked up Jungle Beat today and was thinking about grabbing this too. I don't know though. I was really excited for it until I read the reviews of it being short and just a "high score" type game. Plus, right now I've got a couple games coming to me that I really want to play. I'll probably wait a little while before getting it, but then again I'll probably go to the store tomorrow and buy it. LOL

I saw a whole bunch as well as pokemon dash that an inventory guy was casing up at best buy today and it looked pretty sweet. I might pick it up in a week or two. Gotta get Warioware as well ;D.

I got this today and it is a quality title I must say. I was reluctant to pay $30 for it at first seeing as I haven't bought a real game at full price in a long time. (Last games I bought were WarioWare GC for $15 and a MP/WB bundle for $20. Half price budget.) But after playing a little Marathon it's grown on me.

It's just so tough. I can't get the highest scores to unlock the other two games.

What's weird is the mash-up of sound effects they used. A lot of older SFX made it in instead of what was in the original YI, and the graphics aren't quite YI type cartoony. More like realistic YI look had it not been a childs drawing. Weird and different, but fun as hell.

I love it. It's fun addictive and hard

so without further ado I think we should start posting our high scores

This isn't much to shake as stick at but still

Score Attack
314
Marathon
3746

and I haven't gotten a top score on Time Attack or Challenge mode yet
4:28 and 1662 respectively.

davidbrit2
03-16-2005, 11:31 AM
Score Attack - 415
Marathon - 3832
Time Attack - 4:32.9
Challenge - 2475

I just realized that you can still draw bubbles in the side scrolling part of the game too. That helped the ol' scores a bit. Heh.

Alright, I've spent about 8 hours with the game, and I have to say that it's starting to get damn repetitive.

I like the game, but no ending? No "mission mode", it just seems all thrown together too fast and the "high score" theme of it is wearing thin.

Just after spending so much time with it, I'm not having much fun anymore. Hopefully that will change soon.

Hey Jasoco, this is way off subject but know you work at K-Mart and needed to ask a question. Everytime someone on here posts about k-mart having that half price deal, or whatever great deal on vidoegames, I go to a couple local K-Marts and there are 70% off signs everywhere in the store. But then when I go to the videogame dep. there is nothing that says the vg's are on sale.
So I ask, are all places like that or should the games be marked off. See nothing is marked down when the suppossed sales are going on, and would look like a fool if I brought up like 10 videogames to the counter, find out none of them are on sale, then tell them I don't want anyone of them. THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

I'm a little dissapointed with it. I knew going in about the no story/high score kinda gameplay but I was still kinda hoping for more. Maybe I just have to look at it like a puzzle game to get the most enjoyment out of it. It's pretty hard though...I wish they had a couple lives on the ground like they do in the air.

I think having a couple lives on the ground would make this game 100x better. That's actually one of my biggest complaints, the ground levels being such a bitch because of the "one hit you're dead" thing.

They let you start back at "mid point", but it's not good enough sometimes. :(

Grr.. I got as far as 2,596 Yds.

I do like that it's always different though. Adds to the replay factor. Just wish they had made the goals a little lower for unlocking the other two modes. Especially the first one. I'll NEVER make 300Pts. Making 3,000 Yds is one thing, but points, you have to actually TRY to get objects all the while dodging the baddies.

Got it, today I'll pick up DK Jungle Beat- I'm a real sucker for mascot titles.
I love the look of Yoshi T&G and the music is totally Yoshi! The gameplay is good, but I can see how it can become repetitive. Still worth owning though. Aren't they all :D

also picked up a minty copy of Ogre Batlle Limited Edition for 35.

got it, played for about an hour. seems like a really fun game but it looks like one game i would get sick of fast. the endless mode is nice but they shouldve let you continue at every 1000 yds. all in all, will be great while it lasts, but pretty unplayable when im bored of it :)

I picked it up yesterday and I think that it's great. I have not spent too much time with it, but I think that it's a worthy purchase as far as all the DS games go right now. it's not incredibly deep, but it is pretty fun, a great pick-up and play title. I bought this instead of Wario Ware Touched.

I convinced my buddy at work to buy a DS, so we are testing out the multiplayer tomorrow.

03-17-2005, 10:03 AM
Once I get hooked up with bigdaddychester, we'll have a multiplayer review up. We've both been busy though, so we haven't be able to give it a shot yet.

I love the game myself. Just the right mix of difficulty and incentive to continue playing. I'm a high score nut, (Mario vs. DK, etc.), so I'm having a blast just trying to get those extra few points, or go those extra few yards. Great fun.

That said, I can see the other side of the argument as well. The game is short. There really aren't that many modes to choose from. And it's tough - much tougher than I ever expected. Game is certainly not for everyone - just like WarioWare Touched! - it's not a system seller. But for those who appreciate a fun, simple, yet extremely challenging (ala Super Monkey Ball) game - then this is one of the reasons you bought a DS.

Pros:

- Good for a quick 15 minute break from your day or for a couple of hours of trying to break high scores.

- Simple gameplay, and you'll be making Yoshi jump, throw and so forth in no time.

- Very challenging - and virtually never the same game twice. I was getting frustrated with it last night, because I just couldn't seem to break the 3,000 yard mark, but I went back again and again and finally I smashed it, getting nearly 5,000 yards - which in turn made me want to beat that new record. Fun stuff.

Cons:

- Sometimes you'll end up drawing clouds when you don't mean to (especially when circling and dragging bubbles), which can make for a few problems. Hasn't happened often, but it usually requires some quick thinking to fix.

- Short game. Those looking for the depth of Yoshi's Island are better suited to wait for Yoshi's Universal Gravitation, which looks to be more of a traditional platformer.

- Lack of modes. Some people will get irritated by the lack of modes, and by the challenge in unlocking those modes. I have a feeling that many people will give up on this game too soon.

Anyway, here are some tips:

1. You can circle coins and fruits and throw those as bubbles also. Very helpful, and something I didn't realize until I did it on accident - probably because I never read the manual.

2. You can circle more than one thing at a time if they're close enough together - this generally nets you a bonus or something else extra.

That's all I've got for now.

Jasoco

I knew about the circling things from the videos they showed at E3 of the demo and then the ones at GameSpot.

It's pretty fun. And challenging. Also, remember, sharp things will pop the bubbles, so you sometimes have to lead the bubble around an object before throwing it to the baby or Yoshi.

I played a little more today and I'm warming up to the game more and more. I unlocked the other two modes which while not completely different add more challenge to the game. Also, I didn't realize before that the levels themselves are randomly generated. At first it seemed as if I was playing the same level over and over, but after more time spent theres a bunch of differences and it seems that sometimes they take little bits of each and combine them. Definitely getting better with each play.

High scores abound:

Score Attack: 438
Marathon: 4205
Time Attack: 2:43:3
Challenge: 3083

Spoiler scores (highlight to see):

Bubble Popping Mini-Game (unlocked after beating all other high scores): 116

This is an addictive game - and the scoring system is much deeper than I first thought - there are so many factors that you have to figure into getting a high score. Do I want a fast Yoshi that can hold more eggs but also causes more enemies on the screen and therefore more misses, or do I want a medium speed Yoshi that holds a fair amount of eggs so that I can hit the maximum number of enemies and coins?

So yeah, I'm a nerd. But I'm truly enjoying this game.

Eh.. I just wanted to play it safe. ;)

Honestly though, I don't know that I'd even really call it a mini-game - it certainly wasn't what I would consider a good payoff for besting all the high scores - it's much, much too simple, and much too short to provide that much entertainment (unless it unlocks something else). I believe I just did almost the exact same thing in one of the microgames in WarioWare Touched! - thus I really don't see the point in it.

I'm glad I beat all the high scores though - that always feels good, especially in a game that is challenging - so for now I'm counting that as my payoff. LOL

Well Drexel, thats just my personal opinion about Nintendo´s lack of support for its newest system in the market. Two games released on march? come on!

And I dont bash it on every thread. I´ve done that just once or twice LOL

Well I picked up Yoshi's Touch an Go today, a few days after it's release, along with a DS to play it on. Had to wait out on it for a bit, but one is in the house. (my brother bought it. I like my classic NES gba sp too much to part with it.) I LOVE it. So well worth $30, and i'm thinking one of the better games to start out with. I also picked up Mario DS with it, if anyone gives a hoot or holler.

Because he is right! Look as the DS games available and look at the PSP games available right out of the gates no less! It's pretty hard to compare a crappy release like Wario Ware Touched against an awesome release like Wipeout Pure. I love my DS, but Nintendo us botching it up by making us wait, what half a year, and for What, Animal Crossing? Sure that game will be great, but don't kid yourselves! The games that the PSP is launching with have full blown razor sharp teeth! And the DS has been out since late last year and it's still not even done teething!! They'd better pull something and fast or else this N-fan will truly begin to lose faith.

I've been walking around the NYC with my DS in my pocket, with Yoshi Touch & Go in 'Picto-chat detect' mode hoping to 'sense' someone - but I've come up with nothing - but you know what I have seen while I have been walking around looking for DS owners? LOTS of PSP adverts on the sides of buses. Where are the DS adverts? no Forget that, where are the games?

btw- has anyone successfully found another DS user with this feature??

There's too much that's "on the horizon" and there's not enough here and now.

Oh, yeah but Yoshi Touch & Go is great.....(slight sarcasm)...
(I really do like the game though...)

Me and my brother, as well as my girlfriend have been playing the shit out of multiplayer! I think there is only one course though, which really sucks, because the course does get old.
