Our Wednesday Random Game Generator chose the great 16-bit crossover title "RoboCop vs. Terminator" today.

Though we never got a movie, we did get to see the two characters duke it out on our game systems, including Genesis, SNES, SMS, Game Boy and Game Gear. The various versions of the game differ slightly but they're all essentially platform shooter games along the Contra bloodline.

What did you think of the game? Write your mini-review here.

DP Guide sez:

RoboCop vs. Terminator (Genesis, by Virgin) $8/R4 +
Developed by Bethesda Softworks. Music by Tommy Tallarico. Despite all of the blood and guts (huzzah!) the graphics on the game were toned down a bit for the kids. The skeletons and women baddies were changed to the generic thugs you see throughout. See easter egg "c" for details on how to reverse that. Also released on SNES. Action/Platform/Shooter. EASTER EGGS: Lots of good codes in this game. a) To get the really good stuff, you have to enter "turbo mode". Start a game, pause it, and press A, B, C, C, B, A, C, B, A, C, B, A, A, A, C, A, C, B, C, A, C, A, C, A, B, C, B. When you hear the confirmation sound you will be faster and jump higher. b) Now onto the good stuff. After enabling "turbo mode", if you weren't on "trainer" level when you did so, go back and do so now. A programmer screen will appear, jump off of it. When you finish this level you will be invincible for the rest of the game! c) One more: You may have heard that some of the game's graphics were toned down. It's true, but you can tone them right back up again. Start a game, pause it, and press C, B, A, B, B, A, B, B, C, B, B, C, C, B, B, C, B, C, A, C, C, A (x3), B (x3), A, C, A. PERIODICALS: Electronic Gaming Monthly gave this game a 8, 8, 8, and 7 (out of 10). Released 1994.

I never even knew that this was a game... crazy.

I'll have to check it out. In a real fight though, I'd have to give it to the terminator.

I played the Genesis version when it came out. It looked really good (and the exploding people were pretty funny) but the game itself is nothing spectacular. If you're really into this type of game, it's worth a look, but nothing to write home about.

Why haven't we ever gotten a movie yet? We finally got one for Alien VS Predator! Granted it wasn't the best, but I've seen much worse movies! BTW, I love the game. It's very intense for a 16BIT action shmup, IMHO.

I played it on SNES when it came out... I don't remember much. But it had an AWESOME Box!

There was a GB version, too, and a famous unreleased NES version.

I used to like the Snes version as kid, haven't played it in years and I own it. I'll have to go out and try it again.

Get the NC-17 codes for the Genesis version and it really is a blast to play! One of my favorite platformers on the Genesis, with great sound and some really interesting weapons. IMHO the Genesis version is far superior to the SNES game. They are indeed different games.

Absolutely one of my favourite Megadrive games of all time - and as hard as nails to boot. Smooth, slick and a pleasure to play .. very atmospheric, and buckets of gore! And most importantly, it played just right. Can't recommend this one highly enough!
