Like obvious, but with a "zee" sound instead of "ob".

To pronounce it correctly I would have to remove your larynx.

Like the announcer on Starcade said, you'll have to be quick and devious if you're gonna succeed at Xevious. I rest my case.

I have always said ZEE-VEE-US. I don't understand how annyone could get ZEE-VOSE because you'd would be completely leaving out the "i".

The Japanese kana is ゼビウス, zebiusu (pronounced in English more like zeh-bee-uh-su). That's one way katakana is more convenient than English, you never have to worry about the pronounciation.

Check out this sweet Xevious flash game too:

Use arrow keys, z to shoot, and x to bomb

i've always called it kce-vee-us

i'm not sure how to pronounce the x, but for some kind of better comprehension of how i mean it, it would be the x like in texas, mexico, or texaco.

The little lines (I always forget what they're called) on the "hi" can make it a "vi" as well as a "bi". The "v" sound is pretty new to katakana, so if you talk to stubborn old farts they won't use it and most won't know to pronounce something as a "v" sound unless they're familiar with the word. However, regardless, the developers intend for it to be "vi", not "bi".

In other cases, the "u" is used to as a "v" sound like in the katakana for Valkyrie Profile which normally would be U-a-ru-ki-ri- Pu-ro-fu-a-i-ru (too lazy to do actual Japanese input right now :P ).

Well I'm REALLY glad you came here to check with us.

Because if you were pronouncing the game ZEE-VOUS or EX-EE-VEE-US before and someone found out you called yourself a "retrogamer", you'd be laughed right out of town. Fortunately this has been corrected in time and you can safely travel the halls of gaming.

Next we'll teach you "Ys".

Tough choice! Which is the best Harold: Red Green's nephew or Harold Lloyd? I'll go for Harold Lloyd, whose physical comedy made him among the great silent slapstick comedians (along with Chaplin and Buster Keaton, IMO).

ZEE-ZIX. You could get away with ZY-ZIX here as well, but with all the Z's in the title the "Z" sound really needs to be emphasized.

PS you are welcome. :)

Well the whole point of that is that it's too naughty to actually "say".

This interpretation will have to suffice.
