Sorry if this has been covered already. I went to my local gaming est. and I saw 5 factory sealed copies of RE2 for the cube. Was a rerelease announced and I missed it? Incidentally the packaging and price was the same, $49.99 and not a "players choice".

yeah apparantly. i found some online retailer selling them new for the same price with limit 2 per customer. looks like capcom started making them again in response to resident evil 4's huge success and ebay's ridiculous prices.

I will have to check into that. I have NEVER heard of a company starting up the production line again, of a game that has already been stopped in production. This would be very cool though, as I would pay $49.99 for it.

Didn't Capcom do this at least once with Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo on the PS1?

Damnit....I might have to buy that even though I already have it for PSX.

Damned double post. Well i'll make it semi-worth while.

Does anyone know if Nemesis is also going to be re-released?

So I just checked ebay and miraculously there are currently over 100 factory sealed RE2's upi for auction, most ending in the $30-$40 range. Sorry to those who shelled out $60 for a used one.

Where else would all of these have come from?

It happens fairly frequently actually.

Hehe thank god I never picked one up on ebay. I actually found a copy of RE3 locally for 30 something. I wonder if they're gonna reprint that one? Maybe it will end up being the rare RE on the system!

Didn't Capcom do this at least once with Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo on the PS1?

They also did it with Mega Man, ugly ass cover and moronic manual fully intact (and pushed along by a Nintendo Power review, as well).

So are the new wave the same as the first? Or is there a difference to differenciate between the two?

I am surprised that they didn't just re-release it as a budget game.

There is also another explanation - It could be that a particular wholesaler has been hoarding them (For whatever reasons) and has just been forced to let them back into circulation. It could even be Capcom themselves who were previously limiting the circulation of them, and now Resident Evil 4 has been released, they have let a load start flowing again...

Who knows?

I don't think so. The reason they're releasing them in the original case is so they can sell it for full price. With the popularity of RE4 right now they know they can sell it for full price and get away with it.

Someone I know emailed Capcom in the last few days about this and the reply he got back indicated "they were thinking about reissuing some of the Resident Evil games on the Gamecube". So maybe it has happened. Or maybe it's some stock that's been held back.

As someone else already noted, this happens quite regularly. If the game sells out at $39.99, but the company lowers the price to $19.99 they may reprint it. Heck, all of the "Player's Choice" games are essentially reissues of the originals.

Generally, the company makes one big batch of the amount they expect to sell. Lets say that is 100,000 copies. If the 100,000 copies sell out and stores start asking for more, with enough demand the company may make another run of 50,000 copies.

The problem is if the company makes 100,000 copies and the game only sells 20,000. That's how we find games that drop to $5.00 or less new.

as i mentioned in a previous thread concerning this topic gamequestdirect and gameexpress.com had copies for sale no later than March 8th.

I hit 3 game stores the other day, all had multiple copies in, and the one I asked about it at told me that it had, in fact, been rereleased....but no sign of Resident Evil 3 yet though. :hmm:

Value = Gone.

Sucks if anyone's been hoarding any of them.

Sweet, I couldnt stand the idea of shelling out 100 bucks for a current gen game. I'll have to pick it up when I pick up Forza this week. They need to get RE3 out too.

The only place to get a good selection of Cube games is Game in town. I don't really make a habit of going to town too often, so I bought six Cube titles while I was there. Which says it all :)

And yeah, I finally picked up 2, Nemesis, Code V and 4 for the Cube. Plenty of stock for all of those to be honest. I didnt realise Capcom had started up production again. That's pretty damn cool. I know they're trying to make a buck 'n all but it's still pretty good for us gamers.

Did Resident Evil ever go platinum on the cube? For that matter, did it ever go platinum on the PS2?

My Gamestop just got in used copies of RE2 and 3, but still going for $40 used.

I guess I shouldn't be so proud of shelling out around 40.00 (including tax) for a copy last week. Oh well. Still cool to have, and at least I didn't have to resort to Ebay.

I forgot to add, 2, 3 and CV were all going for £19.99 and it was "buy 1, get second half-price". And it wasn't used, either. Yum.

Luckly I paid less than 8 for each 2 and 3. Sadly, I still need a 2 manual. Bah.

If they are still easy to find around August I'll be picking up 1, 2, and 3. But I'm in no hurry since I have the originals and have played them through multiple times.

Thank god I don't dabble in the "current gen rares" market...and damn, condolences to all who got screwed over by this. But hey, it's only like you paid 2/3 of a new game extra, tops, right?

Making a new batch of games after the first run is over is pretty common. If a game does better than anticipated, they make more. Re-starting production on something is actually pretty cheap - all the high fees for mastering and production are already paid. It's like re-running an ad in a magazine, always cheaper after the first time.

Restarting a game may be cheaper, but is it still cheaper if the initial print run is already 2 years old? Take Disgaea, they did a second run like 6 months after it came out. But RE2 and RE3 are already 2+ years old. I would think time would be a factor somehow. Maybe that's just me not really understanding how the world works *shrug*.

Yes, for the exact reasons stated. A real world example:

When I go to get the Dreamcast games pressed, I have to pay for them to make the artwork into screens and pay for those (4 colors for the two color sections, 1 for the two black and white sections, 4 for the disc itself). I have to pay for the disc to have a master copy of the game that is going into production made.

If I wanted to repress another set, I no longer have to do any of the above. The above is a pretty significant cost (although it would be a much smaller percentage on a game that was selling 50,000 units, but it is still a cost) that doesn't need to be paid again. The company is basically just paying the price of the unpressed disc units (VERY low) and the price of the DVD case (also VERY low).

Forgive me but, when you go to get Dreamcast games pressed?!

I'm very confused as to what you mean. If you find the time, please enlighten me :)

I'm glad to hear that. I already have all the games of course. I just like would be able to have them all for the same system. Nice and uniform you know?

The GOAT Store, which I run with my partner Gary, is still publishing Dreamcast games. We have published three so far. They are professionally pressed and lockout-free (they can be played in NTSC, NTSC-J and PAL systems). They are:

Feet of Fury (http://www.goatstore.com/info.php?id=372001)

We've got a ton more on the way, and we are going to shortly be starting to do more advertising for our Dreamcast releases. If anyone on here is interested, we have an affiliate program that you can sign up for.

Also, within the next couple hours, we will be starting a 20% off sale... so if you want them, when you're checking out type in MOVING and see if it applies the discount. We're moving all of our stuff within the next couple weeks, so we're trying to clear some space to make it easier. :)

its funny last week I'm in gamestop isee re2 preowned mint 39.00 I snapped it up. 2 days ago I see a couple of re3 preowned for 39.00. i trade 3 for the plus 10. Must have been a rerelease or another print run. They said the games come from corperate. Either way I am happy. But I am getting sick of these rereleases killing the collectors dreams. Lets see the collection killers.
