I totally forgot that I had a complete Earthbound for SNES sitting in this pile of game related stuff I just organized.
I know the cart works, but after testing it, I put my SNES away. Now I'm too lazy to dig up the SNES again, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has played this game.
So.... what do you all think of it? (For those who played it)
Do you like it? Hate it?
Please tell me, I'd like to know.

Earthbound is the 2nd greatest game ever created, IMO. It's got a huge cult following for being a brilliant and unique RPG. Play it and cherish every moment of its brilliance.

Translation: Earthbound is one of the most well respected and beloved games on the SNES. It has long since been accredited with "classic" status and is a must play.
Or it's the sequel to Lunar Lander. I get my games mixed up.

I know i'll probably get alot of shit for saying this, but I personally hated the game. I never quite understood why it was prasied and hyped up as much as it has been. I mean, the music is godawful, the battle system is boring enough to put you to sleep and the graphics are terrible. It does get some points for originality and humor, but thats about it. I just wonder why someone would rather play this game when they could be chrono trigger or something.

True, there have been many threads on this game.
But on the other hand, this game is absolutely amazing, and I can't lie, I don't mind another thread on it.

Hrrm lets see what do I think about it...
*looks at avatar* ;)
I love it enough to spend 50 dollars on an earthbound air freshiner and over 200 dollars to get my earthbound poster (rare as hell!) archivally framed.

Earthbound, as has been said before, is easily the second best RPG ever officially released in the US!! :)
[DISCLAIMER: Rob has never said what the best RPG ever released is... the #2 spot is highly overcrowded and needs help from new players like yourself...]
Anyway... i just need to ask.. with the size of the Earthbound box, how did you overlook it? LOL
Seriously, give it a play, it's a long RPG, but like I said, It's at least the second best ever released in America :)

Meaning? If your implying that all I care about is HD graphics and flash in my games that's hardly the case. I can appreciate good gameplay over graphics anyday.. it's just I thought Earthbound was lacking in both. EarthBound to me was a strickly average at best RPG, and the graphics were just another thing I couldn't stand about it. Look, if you like the game that's cool.. whatever, that's your opinion, but what exactly was so great about it? Was it the originality of it? the sense of humor? Because I guarantee that if you took the jokes out that the game wouldn't have nearly received such praise as it has gotten.

It was primarily the originality of it. Hardly the gameplay mechanics or battle system. I never liked either, but I've played and beaten the game multiple times. The story and dialogue is pretty uncommon among RPGs.

I had Earthbound for awhile. I really didn't wanna do it but I gave into the temptation to trade it for Dragon Force for Sega Saturn.
S'all good though. As long as I'm happy with this.....

The most zen-like experience I've had while gaming was riding around aimlessly on the bike in Earthbound.
Here, I wrote a haiku about it:
Ness riding his bike
Serenity in Onett
Earthbound is sublime
I am now completely at peace.

I remember when I bought Earthbound (for $15 no less, at Wal-Mart!). Once I started playing I had to see it to the end. I was sad when I bought an N64 and Mother 3 didn't come out here.

It's hard to say why most people love earthbound to death. The battle system isn't anything spectacular and the story isn't too complex. If I had to boil it down to one thing I would say that it just has the perfect atmosphere.

Amen to that. I saw the ending for the first time ever yesterday. Though I wasn't actually playing through it myself...really need to do that so I can go explore more than my friend who had already played through it before. >_>

It's a great series I just wish the sequal on the N64 had seen the light of day.

Earthbound is the only RPG I've beaten several times over.
I'm going through Phantasy Star II for the second time in my life (first was in 1991) right now. I did PS1 for the second time earlier this year.
But Earthbound? Probably from 4 to 7 times. Definitely an all-time favorite.
For those that hated the game, I always wonder if they beat it. Anyone I personally know that has gone through the game loved every bit of it, even the graphics so many (wrongly) state are "bad." Those that didn't like it I consistently find did not play through the game. Also, The guide book, whether some consider it cheating or not, did come with the game and makes it a lot more fun. That guide book is the coolest I've ever seen.
The game is awesome and has far better story etc. than most modern RPGs.

Well of course the game would suck without the humour, that's what makes the game great. It's like saying if Lunar didn't have such great characters it would be mediocre, or if Shadow Hearts wasn't a horror game it would be like every other PS2 RPG.
People are going to love a game for the feature that sets it apart from the crowd.
As for the graphics? They intentionally suck. They're suppose to (and suceed in) looking like the amatuer scrawlings of a little kid. In that respect Earthbound has one the best use of graphics in a game I've ever seen. The game takes place from a child's perspective, so it's only fitting that the graphics reflect that. Much more clever then simply making the game look "good" which Nintendo was obviously more then capable of doing.
