Spider-Man on the Genesis (the one that's just called 'Spider-Man', not 'Spider-Man vs. the Kingpin') has some of the worst sound in the world. Another one would be Super Baseball 2020, also on the Genesis.. they really butchered the sound on that one (still plays fine, though).

Street Fighter 2 on Genesis... Was terrible compared to the SNES.

Spider-Man on the Genesis .... Yeah, but the music is awesome. Very moody and cool.

My vote would have to go towards one very specific Atari 2600 game. Sound familiar?...

HARRNT HARRNT HARRNT HARRNT

Not even close to "wakka-wakka."

1942 on the NES. The song is one note. I realize that this was similar to the arcade version, which also has crappy sound. But the NES version is even worse.

Ridge Racer 1 for PSX. Horrible, annoying as hell announcer, lousy in-game music. At least you could swap for one of your own CD's...

Are you kidding me? Ridge Racer had great music and SFX! Now Ridge Racer 5 on the PS2 is terrible in that respect. But for me, Rotterdam Nation and Rhythm Shift are some of the major reasons I still play that disc!

SWEET GOD I AGREE!!! 1942 on the NES has to have the worst/most annoying music in video game history. I couldn't imagine anything being any worse. LOL

I have to second (or would it be third?) that.

>Volguard II (Famicom) First level music will make your ears bleed. It just repeats 2 single bars over and over and over and over.

>Kirby's Dream Land (Game Boy) I don't know why, don't ask, but for some godawful reason the music on the Bubbly Clouds stage (stage 4) makes me choke up.

I swear. The intro music and Ridge Racer are my favorites. I bring my Ridge Racer CD for long distance road trips for when I hit the 65 and up zones or when I'm in heavy but steady moving traffic where everybody's going over 70 and the cops get discouraged over which car to pick to pull over.

Everyone will change their opinions if they play Bokosuka Wars for the NES. WORST. FREAKING. SOUND. EVER. That has GOT to be the most freaking grating music ever. I wonder if the original MSX version is worse... I shudder to think. I actually want the WOW! YOU LOSE! screen to come up as it has different music. It's hardly an improvement, but at least the volume is low. x_x

X-men 2 the clone wars (Genesis)

I like it but my wife has a seizure everytime I play it, especially this boss on the 2nd level

On the topic of 1942, it was one of the first games I ever got. I had asked my dad to get me Mario Bros. (the original) as it was pretty much the first video game in the arcade that I got really attached to. In typical Dad fashion, he came home with a game HE wanted to play, which in this case was 1942. He's your typical war buff dad, so he thought this would be some complex flight simulator (you can't blame him; the screen shot on the back of the box just shows the plane on the carrier--I even think it's a shot from the arcade version...my god, Capcom were some slippery bastards). Anyway, we heard that fucking music for the first time, and the first thing he said was "let's take this game back". I sort of liked the shooting action, even though I thought the game must have been broken because it was just playing the same note over and over, and suggested we keep it.

But I have a special hate for 1942 because I never did get the damn Mario Bros. cartridge because it went out of print right after that incident. I'll always blame 1942 for that.

Kunio no Oden on the Super Famicom jumped in my mind. Absolutely awful music. Choose from 3 different absolutely awful BGMs!

Like everything else about the game, the music in Bebe's Kids is terrible, repetitive, and maddening.

To this day, the choice of genre for the music in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 boggles my mind.

I always thought they just screwed up the song with that one obnoxious note that plays every few seconds. Wasn't it Pony Canyon who handled this port for Capcom? That might explain it.

I'll say Spiritual Warfare. One horrible little ditty plays throughout the entire game from start to finish, whether you're prancing through the grass or in a life and death struggle with the hell-spawn of Satan. Absolutely unbearable.

Smugglers Run, GBA, nothing else needs to be said on the topic.

Pony Canyon doesn't appear anywhere in the title screen or documentation, but I guess it's possible. I hate to say it, but 1942 actually looks too GOOD to be a typical ponycanyon release.

Crazy Taxi - the Bad Religion song was tolerable for a short time, but The Offspring never allowed me to enjoy the game.

Ooh, good choice. I just played this last night. Great game, and I can tolerate the music, but I can't tolerate the fact that there's maybe five minutes of music total that just loops infinitely the entire time you play the game.

Nobody's mentioned Streets of Rage 3 yet? The 1st two games had excellent music, but the third one sounds like a baby being hit with a cat, both of which are on fire and going through a wood chipper. :/

i 3rd'n that. They really are great bands. But to get around loyalties or something they only play about 4 bars from each song.

I recall Cruisin' USA on N64 had really chopped and repetitive music and pretty much everybody hated it.

Just about any port of a NeoGeo game that, Takara did for the Genesis.

Case in point Fatal Fary 'when Terry did his power wave move.

It sounded more like he was saying police insted LOL

The Atari 7800 had absolutely blissful sound LOL

It doesn't bother me when I'm playing it but if someone else is playing it the droning noise in Volfied (Megadrive ver.) can be rather wondrous.

Doofy announcer on Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.

"And let's begin... Chooose yer favrit character"

After a while the music on SFIII 3rd strike's title screen irritates me quite a bit.... though I like the music in some of the stages.

After four levels, Mousetrap for the Colecovision started looping this awful 8-note chaos, making the higher levels a bit of a chore. It's tragic, too, as everything else about the game is so nicely done. (The Arcade version also had the same music, but it tended to throw the three tracks around a little more.)

My vote goes for Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 for Dreamcast. I have to mute my TV anytime I wan't to play one of the Genesis classics. It's a shame that the Genesis sound chip is hard to emulate. The awesome tunes and sounds of Streets of Rage 2 sound like rejects that got cut from 1942 (I agree, that 1 note beep is annoying!!!).

I've mentioned this a long time ago, the Sunsoft Memorial Volumes for the PSX. I have no idea how they ruined the music to Blaster Master (MetaFight)/Hebereke (Uforia)/Jouney to Silius (Raf World). The Bass is louder than everything else, making it annoying. The other game, Ripple World, works without a hitch though. Too bad the game is Japanese (Though it does remind me of Princess Tomato).

I also agree with Mousetrap. The game is fun, but I need it on mute.

Just remembered another one. The Flintstones: Rescue of Dino and Hoppy. I wonder who decided that every single sound effect in this game would involve SCREECHING in some way.

Instead of the actual themes like the Playstation version, WWF War Zone on the N64 used hilariously bad MIDI renditions of the themes.

That's not bad, but not quite up to a Seanbaby-level of hilarity.

I disagree with one of the earlier posts which makes reference to the Genny port of Street Fighter 2. Game sounds fine - not as great as the SNES port, but fine.

The Genny port of Mortal Kombat 2 features awful music.

I hate to say it, but I think Crazy Taxi 2 is worse. Take more Offspring songs, kick out Bad Religion entirely, and still have each song play for about a minute. Bleh.

I played this game based on your suggestion. The sound is horrible. So horrible it makes you uncomfortable. The sound isn't the only bad thing though; I have a feeling that even if I knew what the hell was going on, this game would still be terrible.

Not to derail here, but the version I got was a hack--it said "Executive Producer: Yu Suzuki", and the lead character looked like Ryo Hazuki....the whole thing was so poorly translated that I didn't really get the joke, though.

Going to have to go with Daytona USA on this one. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I had a hard time trying not to puke when I heard such songs as "ROOOOOLLLLLLIIIIINNNNGGGG STARRTTTTTTT", or "I WANT TO FLY.. I.. I.. SKY HIGHHHHHHHH!! LETS GOOO TOGETHER" coming out of my speakers. Simply rancid.

You're kidding me! There's a Shenmue hack of Bokosuka Wars out there somewhere??!? I... Ima gonna vomit. Dear... lord... :puke:

Glad I got you to play it. :D :P

Back on topic, my mom never liked the sound effects to Klax or the music. This is for Tengen's NES version, that is. They make her too nervous. *shrug*

If you want to check it out, go to www.emuconnect.com, navigate through all the freakin' pop-ups to get to their "Nintendo" roms and download Bokosuka Wars. The screenshots they show look just like what they've got in your sig there, but when you load the game up the color scheme is all screwed up, with a few more surprises. The "You Lose!" screen is worth checking out.

Okay, back on topic.

Although it's no suprise, V.I.P. for the PSX has some absolutely awful MIDI-ish hard rock guitar techno.
