question for you mega drive experts,

i just got a mega drive game (castlevania)

first off, it's in a genesis game case and it will not get to the start up screen. it will show the sega screen then go to konami screen but stops and stays at that srceen. BTW i'm playing this on a genesis system... i have a few other MD games and they all work well but this one will not.

is there something different about this game then the rest of the MD games?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Rick

Konami MD games tend to be bitchy on non-native hardware.
You'll probably need a convertor or to mod your Genesis.

i have a MD/genesis game convertor, but the game is in a genesis style game case, so i really don't need to use it, (but i did try it, same thing happens)

when you say to mod it, you mean like adding a chip? if i modded it, would the sega CD still work with it?

Thanks!

I have a switch MOD on my Genesis and my Sega CD still works...as long as its set to "US". If its set to "JP" they thing just tells me i need to have my Sega CD hooked up to a US system.

Sorry, I meant one of the convertors that works around the region-coding rather than just the bridge convertor. A Mega-Key, Pro Action Replay or any with dipswitches should do the trick.

Genesis/Mega Drive region mods are dead easy, and there's really no need to pay for it - you basically wire 2 switches to 4 nice big jumper pads and you've got a 100% universal system. It should be fine as long as you know which end of a soldering iron is the hot one ;)

Well, you guys may not be thinking deep enough.

An ever more previlant problem with Genesis/MD games is data problems, generally induced by abuse. For example, I've heard of a case of a Sonic and Knuckles that didn't work; someone dumped it and cracked it open in a hex editor and found every other byte missing. That may be the issue with your Castlevannia.

i just checked on my pro action reply (mega drive version) and most of the time all i get is a black screen, once in a while i'll get the sega screen but that's it. (yes, trying the dip switch in all positions)

a soldering iron? that's what you use to get the golf ball out of the sand bunker right? LOL

Thanks!
