Another Kmart weekend 50% sale... Mar. 19-20

This weekend, March 19 and 20, 2005 AD, Kmart is having their now infamous 50% off Video Game sale.

Most of the games are the same ones they had on sale the past 4 times, but there are once again more.

Among the new ones are that damned Mario Party 4/WaveBird bundle (Half price: $35. Not as good as the MP one was, but still only $5 and you get MP4.) and get this, Sprung for the DS! $15.

I'm really tempted by Sprung. It's practically new and they're cutting the price in half.

So remember, if you have a Kmart or two and a few minutes this weekend, go see if there's anything to grab.

Sprung is absolutely worth it. Although it seemed silly at first to me, the games are quite compelling and unique, utilizing the touch screen constantly, and even the microphone occasionally.

Too bad the Super K near me has been replaced by a Home Depot.

As for Sprung, I do think I will have to get it. I'd been curious about it since it came out. Even for a collectable.

Too bad they don't have any other DS games on the list.

Crap! I didn't mean to steer you wrong guys, I think Sprung is dumb. I got it confused with Feel the Magic, which is fantastic.

Sprung is this dating game where you try to figure out the right dialogue path to get out of awkward situations, and get into other awkward situations. Kinda dumb. Maybe for $15 it's worth trying it out, and moving it quickly if you don't like it.

Touch the Magic is this off the wall game in which you want to win the affections of a hot sillouetted Japanese chick by performing a number of stunts for her with the touchscreen. It turns into you rescuiing her from your fat spiked nemesis. Just a great game.

The problem is that the list they give us isn't a list you can exactly understand. It's practically gibberish to read and makes it so hard for us to pull out the games we need to put on sale. Most of the time we're hanging on shorthand abbreviated titles sometimes with no console name associated with it so we have to resort to checking all three or even 4 (Now 6.. *sigh*) and check the UPC to se which one it is supposed to be.

It's not like the CC sales where there's some published list somewhere. It's just whatever they have on sale. Not all stores will have this stuff, my store doesn't have about 50% of the games on the list, and most of those are the ones I actually wish I could buy for that price. (Zelda: Link to the Past GBA is $15. Good luck finding it.)

The problem is the stores Electronics department is SUPPOSED to have them all pulled and signed with sale signs. At least that's what ours does. But the problem is that retail varies from store to store. So you may live next to a store run by brainless morons who won't know a sale if you showed them a flier with it advertised. :embarrassed:

Found a Metal Slug Advance for $15.00...not marked down, and not out in the clearance tubs with the other games. Still one in the glass case at the Hwy 100 Kmart south of 43 in Milwaukee, for anyone hunting around here. Thanks for the heads up on the sale Jasoco!

I just got back from a Kmart near me and the wavebirds w/ Mario Party 4 were marked $69.99 and when I ask the cashier person if they were on sale and she said no. I then proceeded to look around to see what games were 50% off and didn't see any. So, I went back to the old lady working the stand in electronics and asked which games were 50% off and she then showed me this tiny plastic basket with two PS2 games (Backyard Baseball and something else I can't remember) in addition to about 7-8 GBA games. Not having a PS2, I took a look at the GBA games but the only thing that caught my eye was a Xevious NES classic title marked $9.99 which then equaled $4.99. Not too bad, the real reason I got it was this was my first cabinet arcade game when I was a teenager.

Anyway, I did pick up two other things while I was there. I went this morning with the intention of getting a Wavebird with Mario Party 4 but I eneded up with the Wavebird/Metroid Prime one for $29.99, I have been wanting one for a long time so I didn't mind the price. The other thing I got was Disney's Haunted Mansion for GC for $9.99, these were both clearance items as far as I could tell, not part of any 50% off.

Overall, I am happy and the wavebird is awesome. I've never played Metroid Prime so that's a nice bonus.

Wow! My K-Mart has a ton of these left - I may have to go back and pick that up! I ended up getting a copy of Sprung - the last one that they had. Nothing was marked down either, nor was anything pulled off the shelves.

I think I may still get Sprung, but I'm not positive yet. I have a feeling it'll go on sale again. Something's nagging me saying there'll be another sale next weekend, but don't quote me. I'm just going based on the pattern they have these things. Always holidays and the week before holidays. Don't know why. But who's arguing? It's just a way to clear out all the inventory no one ever buys. And I mean no one. So much crap comes in the PS2 and Xbox. It forces the older crap into bins. People praise the PS2 and Xbox for having so many games, but to me it's a curse.

Metroid/Wavebird bundle clearance for $29.99 (boblentil)
It was placed on clearance within the last couple weeks, because it was full price last time I checked. Typically, Kmart clearance items will have their prices halved every month. You might want to try to wait this one out for another price drop, because there is a very good chance that the bundle will be poorly displayed and no one will bother to change the marked price.

The Metroid bundle surprisingly, this week isn't hal,f price like it has been for the past 3 times they did this. I got mine for $20 when it did. (Before it dropped from $40 to $30) I guess they finally realized the controller itself is worth $30. ;)

Also, it looks like Madden 2005 is missing from the PS1 list. It is part of the sale at mine at least. PS1 only. Not PS2, Cube, Xbox, DS, GBA, PSP, N-Gage, Gizmondo, Phantom, NES or any other console. Just PS1.

As for Fable, no it's not on the sale. But glad someone got it cheap anyway.

You know what the problem is, the employees don't even get word there's a sale or a list of what is ON the sale until the Friday before. Else Cheapass could have had a list earlier. (Unless it did. If so, I wish I knew where they got their info so early..)

It's like stores do this just to keep us on our toes.

Yeah, those WaveBirds (as well as Metroid Prime) are just wonderful. Last sale, I picked up 5 of them to outfit one entire GameCube and a second I plan on putting on our second TV at some point in the distant future.

Well besides from the total sour puss of a cashier I had to put up with while there, i'd say I did rather well at K-mart today. Managed to sang a copy of both Baiten Kaitos and Megaman X Command Mission for the PS2 for around 20 dollars a piece.. which maybe wasn't the deal of the century, especially compared to my finds at Circuit City last year, but I did want to try out Baiten Kaitos and I heard that megaman was becoming harder to find. So i'd say it worked out good. Though I was sort of hoping I would find a copy of Outrun 2 for 10 bucks. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

Yesterday, I got Viewtiful Joe 2 (GC), Kill-Switch (PS2) and Wario Ware (GBA) all for $10 each. I bought Metroid Fusion (GBA) for $15 and then I returned it 10 minutes later because I remembered (a) I have a buttload of unopened and unplayed GBA games and (b) I don't enjoy Metroid games.
