This is a question for you all, I am almost finished with Halo 2 and Have played close to 100 + hours on each multiplayer. I have also completed Halo 1 single player.

Which game do you feel is the best in:

1. Single Player Mode

2. Multiplayer Mode (excluding x-box live on halo 2)

I've never played Halo 2, never really understood the whole Halo fanboy hype, not that there's anything wrong with that. I did thimk that Halo is a great FPS though.

On a side note, on your sig, how is Skies of Arcadia in comparison to Grandia 2?

I like Skies a little better, but I think the fighting system is better in Grandia 2

I personally feel Halo 2 wins on both fronts. Multiplayer it's hands down-Halo 2 doesn't have a broken Pistol, nor ghosts that don't die when you stick them. Plus those "tap deaths" from vehicles were really freaking annoying.

Single player, it's much closer-Halo 2's story is better if you ask me, but Halo's has much better timing to it. Plus, the really good levels of Halo beat the best of Halo 2, but the crummiest of Halo's levels far exceeds even the worst of Halo 2. All in all though, the fact that you have the Arbiter, more varied enviroments, a cooler story, and a painfully harder Legendary mode, I gotta give it to 2.

HALO= YIPPIE

HALO 2= WTF

That's a damn good description of the strengths and weaknesses of Halo 2's single-player mode. I did like how you didn't backtrack in Halo 2 (even though the backtracking in Halo wasn't as bad as it was made out to be). Nothing will eclipse the first meeting of The Flood in Halo @_@ .

i've played a couple 1000 hours playing HALO (counting 1 and 2 players and multi link-up)

and about 100+ hours playing HALO 2
(1 player and link-up)

personally, i think HALO stands high above HALO 2, the only thing 2 has over 1 is on-line.

story, i'm sorry the ending in HALO 2 just did not do it for me! the rest was good.

weapons, NO PISTOL in HALO 2 come on!! Yes, there is a magnum that has about as much power as a pea-shooter. Halo 2 does have the banshee and ghost but the banshee has weird controls not like in HALO

levels, i really did not think HALO had any bad levels but maybe that's just me.... i never got board playing HALO but after playing HALO 2 for a couple hours i get tired..

just my personal thoughts..

Halo 2 for sure, you just don't get the same fast paste experience in Halo. Those slow frame rates kind of kill it for me, and it just wasn't the same playing again after playing Halo 2.

In my opinion, Halo 2 is a disappointment as a presumably superior sequel. The first Halo game is far more enjoyable and feels far more complete.

That's not to say that Halo 2 isn't playable....because it most certainly is. I'm playing it as I post this. But....why those horrible CG glitches? The CG looks worse than the worst Agetec RPG. Mis-cued sound? Disappearing walls? Pop-up? Inexcusable. I've had so many people come back with the lame observation that it "doesn't hamper the gameplay". So what? This is Bungie we're talking about, not some upstart company with no track record. The game should have been polished and superior in every way. Just goes to support what I've always said. Delay a game by a large margin and there's something that is really wrong that is plaguing the development team. There's a bad reason why they can't release it on time.

As far as gameplay is concerned, I feel that the sections where you play the Covenant ruins the flow of the game, although I understand that it carries the story of the Arbiter. Dual wield? I hate it. It blocks far too much screen with a weapon in each hand. What's the point anyways? I can always empty a weapon and find another close by.

Offline multiplayer is something that I tend not to consider and split screen gaming is something that should have been abolished long ago. I feel that with Halo 2, Bungie should have released the game as a Live-only package....and released another offline-only Halo game at a later date. It doesn't take a genius to see that the offline game elements suffered greatly because of the push towards the Live elements. I paid extra money for the collector's edition of Halo 2 and ended up getting a lesser game than I experienced with the original Halo. I feel that the offline portion of many other Xbox games are going to suffer in order to bring us Live enabled features. It may be "good to play together", but not everyone who owns an Xbox wants to.

The original Halo was a tighter package IMO.

The story mode in Halo 2 made my head spin. On one level I'd be playing as the aliens (or whatever the hell they were called), and the next I'd be playing as the humans. The story was going back and forth between the two so much, I didn't know what was going on half the time. I really hated that. Just let me play on one side the entire game and leave it at that.

I agree. On both fronts Halo would win. But with Xbox Live, Halo 2 takes it hands down.

EDIT: tholly, I received your friends request but I'm currently in the process of having to renew my account. When I do I will accept it. :/

But...it did release on time. Bungie never gave a release date outside of November 9th. On the same note, they've said in interviews that they thought it was worthwile to have the cutscenes load on the fly(none of it is CG-are you looking for "cinematics"?), though in retrospect, they realize that wasn't a very good decision.

On the subject of the multiplayer though, are you people really forgetting how bad Halo's multiplayer was broken? No one cared about the pistol because they all started with it, but I tell you what-go play a game on derelict with another good team, start with standard weapons (plasma pistol in that case) and note how whoever gets the pistols up top wins the game. Same story in most maps-wizard, blood gulch, chill out, hell any level where you had another starting gun, the pistol wielders had the advantage. IN NO GAME SHOULD A WEAPON BE THAT DOMINATING. No one complained because you can set it to the starting gun, but then it becomes a sniping fest, where every other gun plays a support role to the stupid handgun!

Oh, and the vehicles! Invincibility is something I do not miss, going back. I mean, tapping people to kill them was kinda dumb, but the fact that the ghost was absolutely unstoppable was ridiculous. You couldn't kill the driver with a rocket to the nose, the damn thing never wanted to flip, it stunned you, the tapping death meant it could hide behind teleporters and murder you from there, it was ridiculous! The tank and the hog couldn't do shit.

Then you've got the grenades. Oh, the grenades. Stupid grenades you can toss halfway across the goddamn ring, with explosion radii and damage levels that a random toss can easily kill someone. Yes, that was great. I also loved running back to health packs constantly. I mean, it is a bit frustrating when someone just ducks behind an object and gets health back, but it's much more entertaining then turtling by the health packs.

Don't get me wrong-I did love Halo's multiplayer. But I went back and played it, and it just couldn't hold a candle. I told a friend of mine about it, and all he could think of was "wow, that sounds really stupid". Some may complain about the sword, but let me tell you, the sword is nothing. The sword is easily dealt with if you play it right. No, Halo 2's multiplayer owns Halo's, and it's not just the online component.

Go on Xbox Connect and do some Halo matches. See how much pistol whoring goes on, and then tell me halo's is better.

I felt that the overall single player of Halo just felt better. The weapons to me fit more to the game. I do and dont like the sub machine guns with a passion in Halo2. They feel so underpowered so much of the time, even when using controlled bursts and dual wielding, but are fun to use. I do think that grenades are underpowered in Halo2. Not that im asking for a nuclear device, but something that can do some actual damage to the bad guys would be nice. It just feels like to many of the weapons in Halo2 have/are useless. Pistol, Brute Shot, Sub Machine gun, Grenades are all just things that dont work in most of the contexts they are findable in. The Story of halo 2 was much better, even if the third act of the story didnt get finished in time for the game, leaving us with that nasty 'incomplete' feeling ending.

Halo's Multi I will agree 1000% with Uber on. I played that to death with friends. We got damn good, but the respawn points were far to often in the 'heat of battle' points of the maps and theres nothing like respawning into an explosion and or hail of gun fire just to die in 2 seconds. The insane power of the Pistol and especially in the hands of a good player means 2 shots and you are dead dead dead. Even if thats halfway across the map. I've never really had heath campers, near so much as I get those players that live next to the overshield/cloak points.
