I was just wondering if anyone had problems running this game on the PS2. My guess is that it is probably my disc (which doesn't show any visible scratches or smudges on it). I've tried changing all the playstation driver options from standard disc speed and standard texture mapping, to fast disc speed smooth texture mapping, but the game still freezes after it loads the warning about graphic images and Konami logo. Is it my disc or have other people experienced compatibility issues with this game?

I personally haven't had any problems, my guess is that either your disc is screwed, or your PS2 is on the way out.

The smooth texture screws up the "Dark effect"...and makes the flashlight look like a giant block

the disc speed increase is funny as hell on Silent Hill LOL

" Imlookingformydaughter, hernameisCheryl" <-- an example of how fast it'll go

but you are not alone on that

Best thing to do, do not adjust the settings, just leave it alone

Most likely its your PS2 ive had 3 PS2s and my original Silent Hill has worked on everyone of them with no problems.

Actually there I believe its one of only a handful (6-8) of Ps1 titles which has compatable issues with the Ps2.

Judge Dredd is another and I think Final Fantasy tactics is too. I posted a list of these somewhere on here awhile back.

I'm guessing its the disk.
I've tried all the settings and it still freezes at the same point. All my other PSX titles work fine...including FF Tactics. Maybe worth the $3 to get the disk resurfaced.

I played through it on a non-PStwo PS2 ("improvement" settings off) to completion without any problems.
