Let me say that I am a fan of xbox and their oversized joystick..I can recall the days of space invaders and adventure when Atari was in it's prime.Intellivision was extreme with graphics but piss poor with controllers(As was Atari 5200)..Now I am older and I miss these systems (Atari,Mattel,Coleco) and such.I guess the morale of my story is that games and JOYSTICKS are too sophisticated..Joysticks have WAY too many buttons now and I think the games should tone down a bit...Pretty soon we will need telescopic toes to play these games...The Buttons Stop Here!!!

Well, if you want to talk about controllers, the PS2 controller has the same number of buttons as the Xbox controller. The Gamecube is short 2 buttons, but it's close. And the Intellivision keypad had quite a few buttons too. LOL

IMHO the Intellivision controller is light years ahead of it's time..

Yeah, it is ahead to a point of evolved intelligent beings with tactile systems capable of properly wielding the things. But for us ordinary humans, we're pretty much screwed. Heh.
I find the XBox controller to be pretty decent (I'm talking the smaller one, here). The start and back buttons are a little awkwardly placed, but this thing is definitely the best hand-held controller available for playing racing games - besides the NegCon - and it's certainly no slouch in other genres.

It might really be if the most recent news about Nintendo's 100% touch screen controllers holds any value.

I can't stand the S-controller to the point I want to break it it's so different. I LOVE the BIG honking hunk of plastic known as the original one. It's perfect IMHO.
Frankly, I also love the Cube controllers simplicity. When used for the games it's made for, it shines. It's perfect at what it does if it's doing what it's supposed to.

Actually I despise the PS2 controller, it gives me cramps after a while. Xbox Type-S is a great controller, and Game Cube is simple but very comfortable.
Honestly, would you want to play a modern FPS with a joystick and two buttons? I wouldn't!

As much as I love the NES, I have to say that the SNES has the ultimate controller!

I think I like the ps2 controller for RPG, Platform games
Fighting & Shooters, xbox
gc controller is perfect for ALL GC games, however I hate playing metriod Prime with it.
I find the Cube controller to be the most comfortable, and like was mentioned, perfect when used with Cube-specific games. The ridiculous kidney shapes of the X and Y buttons was entirely unnecessary IMO. Nintendo always seems to have to "prove" something. There's no reason why they couldn't have gone with uniformly shaped A, B, X and Y buttons in a diamond pattern like everyone else does.
PS2 controller? How about an update for this overly-small, antiquated old design already? The D-pad should be switched with the left stick. The sticks tend to become too slippery as the controller gets older. What's the problem? Too lazy to take the time to come up with a new design? The PS3 controller will most likely be the same ancient design yet again.
Xbox controller. The original large one was THE racing controller and the black, white, start and back buttons were easier to access. I hate the way that Microsoft decided that NONE of us needed the large controller any more. I wish that they'd do two things with the S controller. Raise the profiles of the start, back, black and white buttons so that they can be found easier and get rid of the domed shape of the other buttons. They tend to hurt during a long gaming session. Make the shape of them flat like the buttons on a PS2 controller.
The Dreamcast controller is really good. The N64 controller is incredibly comfortable once you get to know it.
