View Full Version : What would YOU play if...

...you had access to every single game currently out there?

I'm sure that like me, most of you might have more games than you have time to play and I would like to know how you decide what to play on a day to day basis. Do you put that pre-ordered, brand new Devil May Cry 3 into your PS2 or plug in your Nintendo and have a go at Kick Master which you missed out on back when it was just released? When you feel like puzzle games, do you play your Lumines on your imported PSP or would you rather go down memory lane with Tetris Attack on the Gameboy? When the RPGs call out to you do you pick up where you left off in Phantasy Star or do you re-join your friends online in the World of Warcraft?

I'd like to hear about which games you are specifically playing on a regular basis and why you would choose those particular games given the numerous alternatives available today...

Something different every day, and one old favorite every day too.

Heroes 2. Probably the only game that could occupy me for a 24-hour period.

Well yeah, what his saying is true, and I jump from game to game everyday as well, but don't you all find this extremely tedious after a while? Haven't any of you settled for some kind of gaming schedule where you set out to somewhat prioritize what you play and try to stick with a particular game until you've beaten it instead of moving to another as soon as you get stuck or bored with it?

Like for me right now, I'm playing the arcade mode in Tekken 5 on a regular basis (Feng Wei is totally awesome :D ) and in terms of retro I'm playing SNES action games, specifically The Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts. At the same time, I have quite a few RPGs that I'm in the middle of and haven't touched for a long enough period of time that I'm beginning to forget plot elements (Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Inindo: Way of the Ninja, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II). It's beginning to feel like a chore to pick up where I left off in these games and yet at the same time I really want to play them...

Of course, and that's not even mentioning the games that I'm constantly adding to my collection, old 2D fighting games that I whip out and play once in a while, games on my handhelds that I pick up and play occasionally, and other great games that I own yet haven't even had the time to touch etc.

So how do you people handle the fact that there are simply too many good games? Don't you even feel the urge to play several games at once and the process of deciding becomes such a chore that you end up doing something else instead of gaming?

Even if I had every game ever released I would still be playing the same games I play right now. Mostly Dr. Mario, Super Mario Bros 1&3, and Legend of Zelda. They will always be the games I play the most often.

Hands down, my choice would have to be Civ. II. I've never logged so many hours onto a single game and kept coming back for more.

I'd probably just keep on doing what I've been doing for the last year on my Steel Battalion: Line of Contact marathon. That would be my "complicated" game that I play, well, religiously (blasphemy! LOL ). But I also play "games that don't require memory saves". Since there are sometimes lengthy waits in the lobby before enough players come in to start the game, I keep a PSone/screen combo handy next to the TV with an assortment of arcade classic compilations (Williams, Midway, Atari, Party Pak, Namco 1-5, Konami, etc.) and 2-D shooters (Gunbird, Strikers, R-Type, etc.). That way, I have a quick gaming fix available while I'm waiting for the online multiplayer game to fill up. (I've often commented on the potential silliness of "playing a video game while waiting to play a video game".)

Before SB:LOC, I'd generally work on one "complicated" modern (i.e., PSX era forward) game at a time while dabbling in a number of quick-fix shooters and arcade classics. In the past year, though, the only "complicated" titles I've seriously played (aside from SB:LOC) have been Disaster Report, and, well, I can't think of anything else.

So, until SB:LOC becomes no longer worth my while (by reaching some critical point of playerbase shrinkage or asshat infiltration), I'm probably not going to be playing many games that require me to remember more than three buttons at a time or require a game save. On those rare nights when there just aren't enough people to get a SB:LOC match going in a reasonable period of time, I find myself going to watch some TV or read a book rather than trying to learn a complicated control scheme for a modern game that I know I probably won't be playing all that much in the near future.

In my gaming life, I think of this as the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer problem". I really like Buffy. But every time I sit down with it I realize that it's been three months since I've played it and I've completely forgotten how to work the controls so I end up starting it from the beginning again where things are easy. And why have I forgotten? Because I've spent three months playing SB:LOC.

And so the truth comes out. Having learned how to use the Steel Battalion controller, I don't have any more room in my brain for control schemes! :( LOL

Probably Neverwinter Nights (if I could remember where I put away the game's CD). :D

if i could actually convince myself to play games for more than 20 minutes a week anymore, id most likely play my way through shenmue one and two, but as of right now im lucky to even make myself play through a KOF or Matrimelee once, which only takes like... 15 minutes? :/

some day ill make myself sit down and play the shenmues, its on my to do list, i got about half way through shenmue 2 about 2 years ago, and those games have been on my to do list ever since.
