I don't know if it's widely known yet or not, but I just found out that Katamari Damacy has been announced for the Nintendo DS. I'm quite excited to say the least. I'm a big fan of the PS2 game and my DS is sorely lacking in quality titles. I can't wait to roll the ball around with the touch screen.

Oh yes!!!! That, combined with Animal Crossing, are now my 2 biggest must-have titles for the DS. :D

Now, if only Activision would make a 3D Tony Hawk game (any of them!) for the DS...

Let's just hope it'll be a new game, and not a straight port. Not that I would mind having portable Katamari Damacy 1, mind you, but a new one would just be so much cooler, you know?

Aside from the fact that they'd practically have to redo the game in order to fit a straight port on a DS card, they'd also have the problem wherein there's no real way to duplicate the dual analog sticks of the PS2. That, along with Nintendo's buddy-buddy relationship with Namco, would lead me to believe that this will be a new Katamari game that will take advantage of the unique input devices of the DS instead of a port.

Either way, a portable version will be a blast!

Good god, this fills me with joy. So many awesome games are coming out for DS! The wait for them is killing me though!

Well, games like Metroid have already shown they can use the four buttons as a second D-pad, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it's done.

Still, I want it now!

That is cool... depends on what they do to change the game for me. If it is a port I'll pass, but if it is new, cool. :)

I've never played the game, but I've been wanting to try to see what all the love is about.

How does the rolling mechanic work on the Dual-Shock?

The rolling is controlled with both joysticks on the Dual Shock 2.

Both forward = move forward
Both backward = move backward
both upper left diagonal = turn left

etc.

Similar principle than Battlezone's arcade controls.

I likw the PS2 version..... but this will blow it out of the water! You have control of the ball on a whole different level. You control it more then you would on any other system. I am excited...... this could be a system seller!

Yep the DS looks like the perfect system for katamari. You could use the touchpad to change directions and the arrows to move.

I must be the only person alive still not having played Katamari but as a DS owner I am intrigued to see that hyped games are making it onto the console. As has been mentioned in this thread, I too cannot wait for all the upcoming games. At the moment I am just enjoying my GBA games on the DS' vastly superior screen. All the Castlevania games are breathed new life into them...

yeah i know! that's actualy the reason it makes me happy
I found the PC version pretty boring and the DS version promises to be more action-based
