I don't know what anyone sees in this thing, but the price is what is really ludicrous.
Especially with the cost of memory for playing MP3's and such.
If people are interested in the non game functions they might as well buy an MP3 player and some other game device, or some other fancy gadget.
People don't know jack about this thing. What if Mr. Yuppie-wannabe buys it then finds out he can't fit MP3's on the damn thing when he gets it home?
How many people will want to buy the kind of memory needed to actually store a reasonable amount of music? How many people can actually afford it?
The extra features just cause this thing to have even more competition, like that dumb PSX PVR thingy, or whatever the hell it was (and is again it seems....).
It's not just competing with Nintendo, it's competing with all of the gadgetry on the market, IPods and all that junk for instance.....
And dedicated devices perform nearly all of it's functions better and more cost effectively.
This seems like a desperate attempt for Sony to catch up in the gadget market, and UMD ain't a way to do it.
Everyone loves expensive proprietary formats.
UMD and/or Bluray = Beta ?
