Welcome to this week's Monday Morning MAME Club Posting. Every Monday, a member of the MAME club will pick a new game for you to play in MAME! All you have to do to participate is install MAME, download the ROM of the week from this message, and then post your thoughts about the game! You can post a full review of the game or simply tell us what you liked/didn't like about the game. Have you played this game before? Have you played it in an actual arcade? Do you like the genre? How did it run on your computer? Did you beat it? If so, how long did it take? What was your high score? How far can you get? Did you have any problems emulating the game? When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. Remember, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game! Just remember, if you want people to respond during YOUR week, you should play along on OTHER weeks!

The ROM of the week is: Dynasty Wars (available HERE (http://www.robohara.com/mameclub/dynwar.zip)!)
KLOV Link for the game: HERE (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=7680)

I haven't looked at this one yet, but man does that screen look like an earlier version of Capcom's kicks ass Warriors of Fate.

Here is this week's MAME Club Member's Review.

“Capcom takes you back to the past to see the future of video games!” So reads the flyer sent out to promote this game in the late 80s. Known in Japan as "Tenchi Wo Kurau." This (very loosely) translates as Annihilation of Heaven and Earth, I think. Anyway, this is a terrific one or two player game that I remember playing in Myrtle Beach when I was young. Basically, you ride around on a horse slaying hundreds with your sword or spear.

The background and all characters were based on an actual history: the Period of Three Kingdoms after the Han Dynasty in China. At the end of each stage, you will confront a general or other high ranking guardian and square off, ending with a bloody death scene upon victory. Good thing we don't have to pay for each credit though, as death comes pretty quick in the later levels.

The sequel, Warriors of Fate is actually a bit more fun, and if possible, give it a shot, too. This one I actually played as a kid, though, and I wanted everyone to try it out, so I chose it instead. Enjoy! - Cirrus

I give this points for adding a new twist to an old formula by having everything take place on horseback, and the R-Type-style power meter is a nice touch too, but my feelings are a bit mixed overall.

If the controls had been tweaked just a tad bit, it would've been an immeasurably more enjoyable experience. For example, you can't turn around unless you press a button, which feels very clunky in the heat of battle. Also, the lack of attack options presented in the game makes being stuck on the horse feels more than a bit confinining - aside from your special move and the aforementioned power meter, there really isn't much to do other than slash away at waves of enemies.

This is different enough that I can definitely see why someone would consider it a childhood favorite, but it could use a bit of fine-tuning. Perhaps the sequel alleviates these problems? (I've never played it, but I might check it out this week.)

Offhandly, I suggest that if you are using 0.83, you might want to update. Try using the newest version of MAME32.

So basically, not getting the best reviews, huh...? Well, as I said, it was great as a kid, and I don't really know of anyone who had played it.

Definitely check out Warriors of Fate, it mixes this and Final Fight for a great, much better, sequel.

Very unique, although getting used to firing in both directions took some getting used to. I'm really grooving on this game, although...again, I can't seem to pass the very first level :\
