Which was the first game to feature the ingame soft reset? im curious...
(If you dont know what i mean by soft reset, where you press buttons x + x + x + start and the game resets.)

I'm pretty sure some games on the SNES had it. Can't remember any specifics though. Definitely more common on the PS1-on-up though.

The TG-16 had this. You either hold Select and press Run, or hold Run and press Select. It's one of those two. The Gameboy also proliferated the A + B + Start + Select reset, as did NES Dr. Mario. But really, the Atari 5200 has them all beat. ;-) And can we count the Atari 2600? The Reset switch on the console is polled in software, and doesn't fire any interrupts, nor does it cut power to the CPU or anything.

On the SNES spectrum of the subject, mostly RPG's used soft reset feature.

The Jaguar was the first (and only?) system that required the ability to reset the games as a controller thing. All Jaguar releases have it.

The Saturn had it on every game, at least every game I own (40+) I think the Genesis had it on some games too.
Dreamcast A+B+X+Y= Rest to it again to go to the dash board.
PS/PS2 L1+L2+R1+R2+Start+Select= Reset
TG-16 Select+Run= Reset
GCN Dpad up+Start+X+Z+Reset
Snes (some game) L+R+Start+Select= C^2
Thats alll I can think of.

GCN Dpad up+Start+X+Z+Reset.
Gneh? I've always done Start+B+X to reset.

Bubsy for SNES had it. Select + Start, that was it. The only reason I know this is because me and a friend rented it once and the game reset to the title screen as I was going through the last level. It took a while to figure out how it happened, and we were pretty pissed off when we figured out that pressing just 2 buttons at the same time reset the game.

Nintendo was pushing the soft reset for the NGC early on. It was a request that they tried to treat like a requirement. We did it for our early (crappy) NGC game.
