I'm taking this communications course in college, and one of the speeches we have to do is to give an informative speech. I gave my first on how EA is becoming a video gaming giant, but that's irrelevant. For this next speech, I want to do it video game collecting, since that is something I know a thing or two about. I guess what i'm looking for is if anyone has any really cool video game collecting facts or trivia or something of the like, I would really appreciate it (that is assuming there is such things as video game collecting facts or whatnot).

you could mention how most ppl think atari 2600 or nes was the 1st system, but it really wasnt

you could mention how some games (that kizuna encounter or whatever its called for the Neo Geo ) have sold for tens of thousands of dollars

but, the most important thing in public speaking classes is Eye Contact...always make eye contact ... the more eye contact in the very beginning and very end of a speech and the better your grade will be

Ugh, I hate when people say "Pong" was the first video game ever. One guy said, EVEN after I showed him proof, that Pong was still the first video game ever.

I have the public speaking part down, i'm actually decent with that. I just want to make sure I encompass all the great things about collecting, and I want to make fellow collectors proud. Thanks for the heads up on the Kizuna Encounter.

So what do you think is the first video game ever? Spacewar? Tennis For Two?

(Just curious, that's all. A lot of people have different opinions on the subject.)

Slug Russel's Spacewar is the first real video game ever IMHO. There may have been other more simple games before it, but Spacewar was given out with the PDP (was it a PDP 6 or a PDP 1? I dont remember) whenever a company bought one, so it was distributed and everything. Anyway this is just my opinion based on the facts that I am aware of.

If, by video game, you mean it had to be playable on a TV screen, then Ralph Baer's version of table tennis was the first Video game. Higinbotham's version of Table tennis was built for an Oscilloscope and so, strictly speaking, not a video game. Spacewar was written on a PDP-1 using a proprietary CRT screen not compatable with TVs and, therefore, strictly speaking, not the first video game.

If your definition of video game does not require a TV screen then Higinbotham is the clear winner with his demo unit built in 1958.
