i was able to connect the gba with the e-reader at the post office and scan in my character cards, but when i try to connect it at the able's to download the application, the screen just says connecting and i tried it many times and left it sitting for like a half hour, i have the nintendo brand cable. should it be working or am i doing it wrong?

The program you have to download for the music, patterns, and characters are all the same. So if you have the program in the memory for the character cards, you'll be fine.
When you go to Mabel, select "Other Things" then "Scan Card". You should be able to scan it, and it goes just like the character cards process.
