Heh. I bought that game for my kid sister years ago. She graduates high school this year and is appropriately cynical enough to appreciate the reference. Have to order her one....

I played this game all the time back in grade school.
How many have they made in the series now? Are the new ones any good?

Vain people don't wear A&F or Hollister stuff. They get designer fashions that cost more not mass produced stuff that will make you look the same as everyone else. FYI.
Oh yeah, forgot to add:
That shirt is awesome! Just hope people would get the reference. :D

They should sell these with a personalized gravestone on the back so you can re-create all the classic grade-school epitaphs. "John was a homo" etc. etc.

The last Oregon Trail game I played had digitalized actors. Actually it was quite good. Pretty much like the original but with better graphics.

Hmm
My daughter is playing the Amazon Trail on one of our MACs and she is asking all these questions about the rainforest.
It is so cool to sneak education in on these kids when they least expect it :)

That brings back memories of playing that back in the school library on the old apple IIs, I would buy one but I don't have a job as of late so I need to conserve my cash.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin about! Man the memories this thread brings back memories of old. I remember that there was only one computer in our school and you could only go on it if you got on the honor roll. It's funny because back then I was a whiz, if they had that same deal in High School I wouldnt have even seen the computer from detention. LOL

Do you guys remember when there was a new Mac version with a new style of hunting? The hunting was in first person with realistic gunshot sounds. You used the mouse to aim the crosshairs. This came out in about 92 or 93. I remember always prefering the hunting on the apple II. It was a little more challenging, and I thought this first-person stuff was just lame. Didn't stop me from playing it during class, though.

I played alot of OT back in the day on my school's Apple IIs as well. Now that I think about it, the hunting aspect eminds me alot of playing Safari Hunt on a SMS emulator.

I don't think that the average person who sees someone wearing the shirt would get it. I wouldn't have got it if it wasn't in the context of the page that was selling it. I guess that since not everybody will get it is what makes it "cool".
Ambercrombie sucks!

Does anyone else have the urge to go play it right now?

Yup we had those as well. At the same time i also had a computer at home which was an Apple IIc (not the IIe).
Keeping the IIc games payed off in 1993 when we had a computer lab still full of IIe computers (and 2 Macs) and Fridays were "freeplay" in the lab...alot of jealous stares as i was playing "California Games" and "Wings of Fury" :D

Was the Oregon Trail published by "MECC", the same people that published Number Munchers? (Remember the sound it made whenever you ate a number? Bluddum!)
Anyway, that publisher had another game called O'dell Lake where you were a fish who had to decide what and what not to eat in order to grow. Did anybody else play that one? We had a kid in our class named Mike O'Dell. We'd give him loads of shit about that... LOL

*sees shirt*
YES! *will buy*
I still have that game, it came with my first computer. Then my younger friend borrowed it for like a year. Just recently I found another copy in a thrift and I gave it to him as part of his birthday present.
I had Odel Lake I remember I always picked the gray fish because hecould eat everything. And then by some cruel twist of fate I would always get ate by a bird or caught by a fisherman or something.

The last one I ever played was on a 286 in CGA. I played a lot of that when my Dad's Windows PC died in 1996.
Awesome shirt. LOL

Yeah, I also have a MAJOR CRAVING to play Oregon Trail again after seeing this thread. ;)
My folks got me the game along with a few others (I recall Robocop being one) when we got our first IBM Clone for Christmas of 1988. I had allready played the Apple IIe version at school but I was thrilled to have a home version.
Over the years I've seen the new ones and I thought they looked fun but more 'kiddy' games and I just could'nt bring myself to buy them.
I SO WISH that the original was emulated somewhere on line. That would be so cool. Maybe I should do a Google search. ;) God knows the original won't run on a modern system, so a online version would rock.

I haven't used one myself, but I know that Apple II emulators are out there. Get one, get an image of the Oregon Trail (which I'm sure can't be too hard to find), and (here's the hard part) figure out how to use it. It's probably as close as you're gonna get.
I actually played the original oregon trail on an emulator almost 5 years ago. It's out there just gotta look for it.

the-underdogs.org has the VGA remake, and classic gaming has the original. Played both last night. Then I went on an apple 2 binge. Fun stuff.

I'm ashamed to admit I've never beaten this damned game, even after countless elementary school hours commited. I was close once, but we had to leave the computer lab to do something else (Prolly gym. Damn you rope climbing!)

Back in High School our programing class got one week to "study entertainment software" i.e. play games.
All of my good friends would use each others names in Oregon Trail and Kevin ALWAYS died of dysentary. No matter who was playing.
I think Kevin needs this shirt.

Rock on. Now we need to find an O'dell Lake shirt. Tried Googling it--too nonspecific.
