I wonder if you would have done better if you'd made this a Dutch auction of say 100 $5 donations. That way every bidder would be able to pay you rather than just the one high bidder.

LOL Awesome idea. If it makes you feel any better, I have $4000 in debt on two credit cards from college (graduated last May) and I have a friend who has over $10,000.
