along with metal gear ac!d and ridge racer. they didn't have wipeout

holy shit the screen is big and beautiful, and it feels like it was worth buying today, compared to the ds, which had a horrible launch. i am very impressed with this hardware

how about you?

Well, I just took mine out of the box, fired it up and BAM, two dead pixels! Hopefully they'll have a replacement for me when I bring it back tomorrow. x_x

Aside from my pixel problem, yes, it's a beautiful piece of hardware. I can't get over how tiny it is. I was thinking it'd be the size of an Atari Lynx, but it's not much bigger than a DS. The video quality is amazing too. Can't wait 'till I get a bigger memory stick and rip some movies onto it.

That analog stick is pretty strange. I was thinking it'd be like a mini dual shock stick, but it feels more like a self-centering NES Max controller. Feels pretty smooth though and should be easy to play with. The only game I have right now is Darkstalkers, so I'm not able to use it yet.

Just throwing this out there but the gba has had its fair share of dead pixels as well, so is the nature of lcd.

Yeah, I understand that but it still pisses me off. I go thru the trouble of pre-ordering a PSP, pick it up at launch and then I get one with problems. The fact that I might not even be able to get a replacement until a new shipment comes in makes me even more angry.

When I was in the Gamerush store I got it from yesterday, they said they so far only sold 11 of the 20 that they received. So hopefully they'll still have one left for me tomorrow.

I hear yah. I would never settle (and never had actually) for dead pixels. I know the whole score about how it is the nature of the technology, but the nature of my purchases require perfect devices!

In that case Sony is right out. So are most others, but eh.

Good luck getting a replacement. Probably shoudn't be hard but I wouldn't be too sure. Actually, with just a couple dead pixels it ain't gonna happen. Good freakin' luck. I don't think that would be considered defective.

Never seen that. My original GB was free from such glitches for 8 years or so.

PC Engine GT's have dead pixels, but that was much older lcd technology. Some PCEGT's are still playable, if PSPs age as well it will be a sign of the apoxeclipse. Remember this!? (And you won't even need a viewmaster!).

What the hell is an apoxeclipse?

Didn't Sony say they weren't going to honor the 90 day warranty on the PSP for things such as dead pixels, shoulder buttons, X and Square buttons? Or am I hallucinating?

6 more hours until I pick up mine. I already bought Twisted Metal Online and THUG2 Remix for it over the past weekend. :) :-P

That's what I thought.... I don't think any company would do that for dead pixels actually, unless it was an extreme case perhaps.

A cheesy reference to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.... Sorry.

Not sure about Sony, but Nintendo will take them back even with 1 dead pixel. I think I heard Sony was changing it's tune on the subject after everyone bitched about the problems in Japan.

If Sony does what most companies seem to do with LCDs: if it's a dead pixel here and there they won't replace. If there are dead pixels next to each other they will replace it.

These issues are why I spent the extra cash and got a PRP at Funcoland. It is worth $30 for my sanity for a year at least.

I still can't believe how incredible this thing is. It looks and feels like it should be $500+. Absolutely amazing. I'm glad I didn't wait. Ridge Racer is truly mind blowing. Everyone is going to want one after seeing it.

I want one, but I don't want one.

When I worked at Circuit City we would fix items under warranty if they had 3 or more dead pixels.

OK, we've got an "official" thread for this now, so let's direct all PSP launch day stuff over here:
