I just picked up a loose copy of Fun With Numbers for the 2600. The online rarity guide states:

This title was formerly known as “Basic Math”. Re-released in 1986 where a label variation incorrectly states "for use with paddles". This typo may even be covered by corporate black tape!

What perplexes me here is that the cart I've got is a non-illustrated label; white and red text. If this game were re-released in 1986 then why does it have this old-style labelling? I don't know exactly when Atari stopped issuing text-label carts but I can't imagine any were released as late as `86. So does anyone know if "Fun With Numbers" could have been released under that title prior to, say, 1980? Thanks.

Yup, it was. I guess Atari concluded that "Basic Math" didn't sound fun enough.

Thanks. This clears it up. I like that labelled version of the cart and will have to keep my eye out for it.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a Fun With Numbers cart in my 10 years of collecting. That reissue label is pretty sweet looking. :-P

I love label variations on the 2600 for some reason. I have too many. @_@
