I just bought a used copy of TETRIS for the Game Boy at a local used game store. They had two copies. One copy had a very worn label, the other had a very good label. I bought the later.
When I got home I tried all the game cartridges that I had bought, and found that instead of TETRIS, the cartridge with the beautiful Tetris label was, in fact, THE CASTLEVANIA ADVENTURE. The label does NOT look tampered with in any way.
Anyone else here have this sort of thing happen to them? Is this cartridge worth anything?

Methinks they should test the games before they put them out for sale.
I'm sure it's not all that hard to peel off the labels. I've seen lots of games that were owned by little kids where they peeled off the labels and then put them back on upside down.

Unfortunately, anyone with an NES game bit can open the case and swap boards, which is most likely what happened.

You don't need to tamper with the label of Game Boy carts to swap out the board. I've actually had something similar happen to me with a Super Street Fighter 2 for the SNES. It was a North American casing but it held a Japanese version of the game.

Thanks for replying everybody!
I'm thinking of holding onto it just because of it's "oddity" factor.

yeah I have a NES Captain Planet with a Captain America board in it. Close but no cigar.

WTF? Considering how few average gamers own the gamebit to open these, this is very odd indeed.

well, probably most of us here have them.
I once bought a used copy of NGPC Puzzle Bobble,
and found out that someone had taken the original board,
and replaced it with a random piece of circuitry,
cut to fit the shape of the cartridge.
alot of work...but for what?

Well yeah, but we're a pretty select group and hardly the average gamers. :)
I once found a gameboy cart board in a parking lot all scratched up one. Barely recognizeable. The chip was removed and the board was pretty beat up. This was back in the mid 90s. I don't think I know anybody else that would have even recognized it...especially since it was night time. How totally friggin random, I thought! I still have it in my wallet as sort of a good luck charm.

Actually, come to think of it, you don't really need a gamebit to open GB carts, since the screw is so accessable, unlike NES games.

Keep game, sell case with no game for money.

Never had it happen to me with Gameboy carts, but I've come across two NES carts with swapped out boards. Its always contained a crappier game than I thought I was buying too. :(
