It is common knowledge that the PSP has an "Analog Nub". Or at least that's what Sony calls it. In reality it is just a digital pad or nub with 3 or 4 different positions in each direction giving it a total of 20 or so different positions and a few more when two directions are pushed at once like up-right on a regular D-Pad for example. This doesn't make the nub useless per say just less useful than a true analog stick would be. It's just weird that they advertise it as analog which is false advertising and could get them into trouble but that's Sony for you. Lying to the consumer, making false statements and we all know they don't actually care about their customers, only their share holders. I for one have had it with their corporate bull shit, overpriced budles no one wants, cheaply made hardware, lack of quality control, etc., etc., etc. And why there aren't two nub's on the unit I don't know, I guess that would make it too difficult to hold or something. That would make it easier for FPS's though.

It's not quite digital in the sense that a directional signals are measures in degrees as opposed to just a "yes" or "no". Some old PC games like Wing Commander III measure the analog signal by degrees (if I remember correctly) with something like a positive or negative value between 0 and 255 for the x and y axes. It's that such degrees exist that make it analog.
