Is it just me, or is Pitfall the Mayan Adventure on like every system known to man?

Ok, maybe that was somewhat of an exageration, but you know what I mean.

The game appeared on these systems:

Genesis
Super Nintendo
Sega CD
Atari Jaguar
Sega 32X

Ok, so it's only 5 systems, but it seemed like it was on every system.

Does anybody know which version is the definitive one?

Don't know about the definitive Mayan Adventure version, but the original Pitfall was probably the game that had appeared on the most systems. (Ok, maybe Pac-Man could beat it, but it's close!)

I thought that honor went to Demon Attack with the most cartridge based versions.

I believe it also exists for the Gameboy Advance and the PC.

The Mayan Adventure was also a very early title for the Game Boy Advance, if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Curses, foiled again!

Actually, Pifall: The Myan Adventure was a GBC title. I don't know about there being a GBA version but I wouldn't doubt it.

That was a pretty sweet platformer remake...in fact, having the original pitfall hidden in the game was a nice touch.

imho the 32X version was the best, but it's been a while since I played that game

Nope, never on GBC. Quick DP search says it was released for the following consoles:

Sega CD, Genesis, 32X, SNES, Jaguar, Game Boy Advance

Also in the Rumor Mill for the NUON.

You know I was thinking about asking the same question.

Other games that are along the same lines that I was wondering about was

Just for the Hell of it, I'll toss this into the discussion. I think the single game that has appeared on the most systems is not Pac-Man, but Ms. Pac-Man. It's a close race between the 2 though.

I'd say Ms. Pac-Man wins due to the 7800 port

I guess the GBC Pitfall game was something slightly different, but I'm pretty sure there was one.

I'd say the PC or SNES version was definitive. (The PC version was released on the same day as Windows 95, IIRC.)

As for most platforms, the prize would easily go to Bomberman.

Flashback is a good one too.

I know that it's on:

Genesis
Super Nintendo
Sega CD
Jaguar
3DO

possibly some other systems too?

Pitfall is the best on the PC by far, highest music quality, three extra levels and you can toss it into a CD player and listen to the tracks at your leisure which is sweet in my book. That game is one of my top five favorite platformers.

There was the original Pitfall hidden in a sequel for the three major modern consoles (you know what they are).

if you look at the whole Pitfall series, could it be that it's available on ALL systems really? well, minus the super small library systems like Acan and so on

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is one of my favorite platformers! It deserves to be on all the systems! The game was fanstastic, but the art was incredible as well! I began playing it on the SNES when it came out, followed by the PC one, then Sega CD, heh. All the same game, but very replayable!

yea.. It's not king of the ports.

Has anyone finished this game? lol

I always thought Dragon's Lair had the most ports

Nintendo
Sega CD
CD-i
SNES
Jaguar
3DO
Game Boy Color
PC
DVD players

plus the 3D versions on the PS2, GC and XBOX

I used to have it on the SNES but traded it off. Never got past the first level, nor did I really care to. I did play the original Pitfall! several times, though. If I didn't have access to Pitfall! on Activision Anthology (PS2), I might have kept it.

My bad, Pitfall: Beyond the Jungle was the GBC game.

Pitfall Mayan Adventure WAS released on the GBA... it's the third worse GBA game I've had (behind Mortal Kombat Advance and Midway Arcade Treasures).

Ugh. What a piece of shit. (Dunno about the other ports, my judgment being for the GBA port)

And I agree with the theory that Ms. Pac-Man must be the most ported game of all time. She's everywhere!!!

I'd say Ms. Pac-Man wins due to the 7800 port

and the master system

though pacman was the only pac on the intellivision and neo geo pocket

Actually, I did. I even went back and found all the secret letters. (Hardly any bonus ending for that one, really.) Rather reminiscent of Commander Keen, I thought.

It's extremely easy to build up continues in the runaway mine cart level.

You forgot the ADAM port. (Actually, a lot of the Dragon's Lair games weren't really ports, and certainly weren't very good.)

I finished Mayan Adventure on Super NES. Fun game, with some good level designs and animation. I'm not surprised they tried to bring it back to GBA.

I've finished the Snes, Jaguar, and PC versions. The Snes one is great til' the last boss, he's such a pushover. The Jag and PC he is a real pain, seems that they put their backbone into the difficulty.

Is that a bad thing? I like that, we need to talk about more specific games more often, there is too much talk about consoles and new stuff and not enough about the classics anymore.

I really liked Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure for the Atari Jaguar. I haven't tried any of the other ports, but I'm sure it must be similar.

And as for the most ported game, I think Ms. Pac-Man is certainly up there, but I also think that Q*Bert, Donkey Kong, and Frogger might also vie for the top spot. (And Centipede would probably be up there too.)

Yeah, he's actually a reasonable challenge, which was a rewarding change of pace from the usual boss fare. It's not so bad once you get the right jump-shoot rhythm to hit him in the face, though. And when he's just standing there slowly pounding his foot, it's easy to get a few whip hits in.

Was that ported on a 5 in diskette? I wonder how good that port is, is it is decent I have to check it out, that would make at least one game on the TRS 80 worthwile.

No, it is in cart form for the CoCo3. The box, cart, and manual look good, but the game is so sluggish - not a good port in my opinion.

I have the Genesis version of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, and think that it's a very good, underrated platform game. Nice level design, interesting bosses and enemies and many secrets... in addition to the original Pitfall, of course.
