I believe that's only if the food item in question is past the expiration date.
That being said, that pear sure as heck doesn't look unused. It looks...lumpy.

I am also told that the #4410-#4420 print runs of these pears had unlockable characters! And have extra-juicy content! :-P

if only it was a green apple i woulda bought it but pears arent very good
