I was in the mall today when a horror game cover caught my eye....

KUON.

I have looked around briefly for opinions on this title and they seem all favorable, many saying sleeper horror title of the year.

Is it worth buying? The price tag was 50 so I didn't buy it... maybe when it's 30...

It reminds me of Ju-On (AKA The Grudge)... hell it's spelled the same except for the K...

I honestly didn't care for Kuon. Too slow-paced (even for the genre), frustrating combat, lame voice acting.

Where'd you find the favorable opinions? Most of the prozines and prosites slagged it.

Never even SEEN that one. Weird. Looks like a hopped up version of Juggernaut.

Siren and Fatal Frame are much better games.

The game is $30 new at Gamestop. I wouldn't recommend it though. The control is iffy, the combat sucks and while this doesn't bother everyone, the game requires you to use an item to save ala ink ribbons from RE. I like the atmosphere of the game, but I couldn't be bothered to put up with the downsides.

Thats a great game IMO.

Just started Siren last week (got it for Xmas!) It got mediocre to fair reviews but I kinda dig it. It's made up of short acts/events you play through, guiding different characters & trying to achieve given goal(s). The events are supposedly tied together somehow, & that seems to be the most confusing aspect of the game (right now.) Also, I HATE doing parts of games repeatedly, & unfortunately there's LOTS of it here, but somehow I really didnt mind.

The British voiceovers for the Asian characters dont bother me either, although it's quite noticeable.

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread but I didn't want to make a new one considering that this one existed.

Well, I'm just here trying to find information about a curious thing that I found:

I was at a pawn shop picking up some titles that I had on my wishlist when I came across a copy of Kuon. I decided to pick it up for trade/selling.

I'm back at my place and then put the disc on my PS2 to test it. Disc loads, all seems good and then...

O_O - "WTF???" - I think. - "That doesn't seem right."

I pop in my other Kuon disc and the intro screen appears:

I inspected the discs and couldn't find ANY difference. S/N is SLUS21007 on both. On the underside of the discs both say PDSS-013395A1 1... :beaten:

I really don't know what to think besides that agetec pressed several (two at least, considering both of my copies) versions of the master disc for some reason.

I don't have the game, but did you let the game continue through its "attract-mode" a few times to make sure they don't cycle different pictures at the start screen?

Tried comparing both discs via ISOs / file sizes?

Yeah, I did exactly that. Even if they did cycle, why would they program a disc to load one of them first and another disc would load a different one first? If you start the game and press start you go directly to the title screen and it differs on both discs.

I left the demo and intro movie appear for a few times an the title screen remained constant.

Both have the same file size:

I really can't explain this... I was hoping to find people that own this game and see what intro screens they have.

I haven't played the new one so I don't know if the other one is different in any way but as I said both games look the same. Both are black labels and everything.

EDIT: Ok, seems that I overreacted and made a fool of myself...

Turns out that the title screens do cycle but the order is randomized... After the 20th or so time that I left the demo run on the new disc it showed another title screen:

:beaten: ARGGHHH.... why do you torment me?

Still it's pretty weird... I've played the game a few times and I got the same title screen everytime. :? O_O

So, case closed... sorry...

Juggernaugt was a point and click adventure albiet a very strange and surreal point and click. Highly recommemed if you like your games offbeat.

Kuon is survial horror.

I loved Kuon. It's a bit much to have to play thru the game again from different characters' perspectives, but if you put it up after playing thru as one person it seems fresh when you pick it up again later. I thought the combat was quite good (after playing abysmal failures like Rule of Rose that are undone thanks to crappy battle engines) and the story was nicely cheesy Japanese horror (if you like the stories in Shadow Hearts you'll love this game). I also thought the setting was perfect and a nice change of pace from the other survival horror titles out there.

Another rarity is it?

Since the topic is bumped, I guess I'll add one to the list.

Disgaea. There are zombies and it puts me to sleep.
