I had an argument with a friend over which is the best phantasy star game for genesis. I didnt put PS1 as an option beacuse it isnt a genuine genesis release.
Please mention which one you voted for, and why!
Thanks!

PSIV. Although PSII is a great game, PSIV is less tedious and just took the series to new levels with the amazing cutscenes and cool battle system. I do sort of prefer the PSII characters, though.

7 votes and no love for PS3 so far LOL
My favorite was PS2. It was the first futuristic RPG I played...and I loved it. The ending has got to be one of the best ever....now THATS what I call a surprise ending!

PSIV. First PS game I played and loved the graphics, the designs and the cutscenes as well as using different transportations to fight enemies.

I voted for PSIV. I loved all three but the fourth has aged best.

Phantasy Star 4. I loved the story, which was a proper "end" for the series.

I'm with the majority here ... Phantasy Star IV. One of the first RPGs I've played and probably one of my favorite games of all time. The atmosphere, storyline, characters ... everything just seems "right" about this game. A true masterpiece, IMO.
The other Phantasy Star games are excellent too, even the much maligned Phantasy Star 3.

I have a theory about this voting trend....when Phantasy star 2 came out not many people had genesis...it wasnt very popular yet...however when phantasy star 4 came out the genesis was at its peak of popularity, thus many more people played it..
So basically my second question is: how many from the people who voted for PS4 actually played and finished PS2?
Thanks! :)

I've played all of them and IV is still my favorite.

I haven't played all the way through II yet, admittedly, but I had to vote IV. The macro battle system gets much love from me.

You're right, the rerelease is a genuine Mega Drive release. :)
Had to vote for 2, with 4 coming in second.

That's a good point Suppafly ... I remember my cousin playing the crap out of Phantasy Star II when it first came out, but I never did. I played Phantasy Star IV first and then went backwards from there.

PS 1 and II hold a very special place in my heart. My vote has to go to 2. I must admit, I've never played 3 or 4, and I plan to play those as the next games I complete.
I remember when I was 14 and first beat PS II. I've got crazy memories of that time of my life...I just finished PS II for the second tim in my life last week. It was sweet to go on that ride again.
I'll do III next...probably start it this week or next. Can not wait to get the Playstation 2 PS Trilogy!!

This reminds me... I've never actually played PS4, I don't think. I really ought to. I own 2 and 3, and like them both. I actually never finished 2, because there were several occasions where I died a good hour or two after last saving. So 3 is the only one I beat, and I beat it several times over, getting three of the endings. At least it has replayability for as much as people seem to not like it.

I still have never played more than an hour into PS4, so I honestly can't comment on it. It is widely regarded as a great game, and one of these days I'll sit down and finally go through it.
I voted for PS2 because it made such a great impact in 1990 when it was released. It was, for a time, the new standard bearer in RPG's. It's still a classic, even though I've lost much interest in crawling around dungeons and getting mugged at random. For me, the best part of this game was its ending, which was magnificent, and a little poignant. Why can't any other games end like PS2?

All great games, I have played the hell out of all of them and finished all of them too. :D But PSII wins hands down here, actually I loved that game so much playing on my friends Genesis right after it was released that I traded in my TG16, 4-5 games and my brothers Sega Master System 2 and games to get a Genesis and PSII to play that game in particular. x_x BAD move (should have just saved the $$ for a Genesis), but it is hard to have patience when you are 14 or 15 years old, least it was for me. Good memories though, my parents were on vacation when I did that and I had gotten the TG16 (and my brother the SMS2) for Xmas probably about 3-4 months before that... they were teh pissed to say the least, I was happy though. ;)
But anyhow, PSII may not have technically as good of graphics fight backgrounds as the other two, but to me the graphics will always be cooler, the characters more memorable (I was pissed when Nei died), better story. First time I played PSII at my friends house when I was staying the night I ended up staying up until 8am in the morning playing while everyone else slept... that is how good that game is.

Phantasy Star has always been a great series and Part 2 and 4 are arguably some of the best RPGs ever made.
I remember how PS2 impressed me sooo much back in the day and its still a good game even today.
Part3 was a big let down in my opinion though but part 4 more than made up for it a great ending to the 16-bit Phantasy Stars ;)
Now if only the new Phantasy Star Generations or whatever its called will bring the series back to its roots :hmm:
