Okay, there's 2 questions going on here, I'll start with the first one:

I have a horizontal based Altered Beast cabinet which is a System 16/b wired cabinet. How hard would it be to change this over to a JAMMA cabinet? And, is there such thing as an adapter that changes the System 16 connector end to JAMMA (ie, a converter).

The next thing, monitor orientation. I've read that some monitors can be rotated in the cabinet from vertical to horizontal. How could I tell if this was possible?

Hm I'm walking myself through this and I think I'm missing something. I assume you're talking about your Altered Beast cabinet. If you were to rotate the monitor and convert it to JAMMA, it would be just like your Gondomania cabinet (which is JAMMA and has a vertical monitor).

There's nothing hard about rotating a monitor, it's just a matter of physically changing your cabinet (moving mounting brackets, etc).

There are lots of places that sell converters to convert games to JAMMA -- however, I'm not sure if anyone sells converters going the other direction. I'll do some looking this afternoon.

I'd sure hate to see that Altered Beast cab all mucked up though!

Whoops, let me clarify something. One way you could convert that cab to JAMMA is just to rewire it with a new JAMMA harness, which runs about $15 and then you would just run all the wires to where they go. You could even get a Sega > JAMMA adapter so you could plug your game right back into it.

You're confused :D I was thinking of both the cabinets and the same time, not just one... 1 to convert, 1 to rotate.. got it? :) Okay, so you can rotate it in the cabinet itself, I'll keep that it in mind.

I didn't want to rewire the entire AB cab, which is why I was looking for an adapter. I like the cabinet and the button layout is perfect for a lot of games, however, it isn't JAMMA :/

I don't think there is an adapter pre-made to go from JAMMA to system16, but you could definately build one... they pinouts are pretty similar, or like Flack said, you could just rewire the cab to JAMMA and get a system16 to JAMMA.

Ok I see where you were going with that now Ice. I thought you were saying you wanted to convert your Altered Beast to JAMMA AND rotate the monitor in it -- at which point you would have a JAMMA cabinet with a vertical monitor (which you already have, in Gondomania).

Looks like I might go the "wire it myself" route and get a System16->JAMMA connector. I did just pick up Aero Fighters for the Gondomania cabinet.. mmmm... SHUMP...
