OK, guys... time for your input. I'm itchin to get another console.

My wife and I are having our first baby in September, so I'm looking at this as my last system I'll buy for a while.

Here's what I have right now:

Atari
Colecovision
NES
SNES
N64
Genesis
Dreamcast
3DO
TG16
Saturn
Gamecube
XBox
PS1
PS2

So, I'm thinking that I should get one of the following:

Super Famicom
Neo Geo CD
Sega Master System
Sega Mega Drive
Atari Jaguar

I'm really leaning towards the Neo Geo. However, I'm a player/collector - and I don't really dig fighting games. Is the Neo Geo only good for fighting games?

Are there any systems that I should be considering instead of my list? I'd like to get something that isn't too similar to the ones I already own...

Master System! You cant go wrong with it!

With my extreme SMS bias, I have to agree. Good console, different genre types, plus easy on the budget (The system itself is relatively cheap, and only a handful of games are worth more than $20 complete).

As you already got Genesis/SNES I'd leave the Mega Drive/SFamicom for now, use adaptors for those Japanese games you really must play. Master System seems like the obvious choice to me :)

I too i'm going to say Master System and here's why..

Super Famicom - Pointless if you already own a SNES. just cut the two tabs and you can play all the imports you want.

Neo Geo CD - Can't say myself because I never played one, but it's supposed to have horried loading times and just wouldn't be worth the money IMO.

Sega Master System- Good and cheap games and import ready to boot.

Sega Mega Drive - Most imports sould play ok with a convertor.

Atari Jaguar - No comment.

I gotta go along with everyone above. The Master System sounds like a great buy for you.

i'm a huge Neo Geo fanboy, but if you're not into fighters, puzzlers, and shmups (in that order)... I'd say SMS too

Well, if it's really going to be the last console for a long while, what I would do is have the funds ready to buy the Xbox 2 (or whatever they decide to call it) a month or two after your child is born. :)

If you get a neo geo cd then make sure that you get the twin speed model.

Master system is an often overlooked 8bit and well worth the money it is going for these days.

I would get a CD player for your TG-16. Make sure you get one with a Super System 3.0 card, so you can play all the Super CD's. There are so many great Super CD games, especially in Japan.

But certainly a Master System isn't a bad choice. I'm actually looking for a Master System myself.

I'm extremely excited about the Sega Master System, because it is the oldest "traditional" console system that featured R.G.B. output. Not only that, but if you have a R.G.B. cable for the Model 1 Genesis, then you don't even need to get a new R.G.B. cable for it.

Have you thought of Sega CD? I always enjoy it. But if you are unsure about it, Forget it since you might find it "Quirky"

And i noticed that you didn't list any Handhelds. Do you have any of those? If you don't have one, Get a Game boy advance.

Well, it's pretty much unanimous... I'll be getting the SMS... Any games that I shouldn't miss?

Slate, I also have the Game Boy, GB Color, GB Advance, & GBA SP (NES model). I almost bought a Sega Game Gear last week - but the screen had too many scratches for me.

Anthony, I'll look into the TGCD... thanks! I'm not really that much into imported games, though.

I'm sure no one will be surprised when I recommend the Odd........beauty of the Sega Master System.

Really.

I'm jumping on the SMS bandwagon.

Second is Neo Geo unless you do not like Shooters, Fighters, Puzzlers and the occasional sports game.
