Lately Fry's has been advertising the Nintendo DS Mario 64 Bundle. Basically it's a DS with Mario 64 DS thrown in for the same price. They might also throw in a carrying case or something like that, I can't remember.
But when I first saw the ad for it, I though, here we go......Nintendo is already starting to feel the pressure and now they are giving away the best DS game that is currently available.
I thought it was a standard thing that all the retailers would be offering, but it appears that Fry's is the only one I've seen do the Mario DS bundle.
Anybody seen any other stores doing this bundle?

Is the actual DS box any different? Or is a DS and a Mario DS shrinkwrapped together or something like that?
And to answer the question, this is news to me.

I actually haven't been to Fry's and actually seen what the package physically looks like. I've just seen their ad in my local newspaper. They started selling these bundles the day the PSP launched.
However, Fry's is notorious for doing 1 and 2 day sales. So it could be a limited time offer. But they've ran the advertisement a number of times.
It's probably just a deal where they ring you up for the DS unit, the Mario 64 DS game and the carrying case or whatever else they were throwing in, and then they take off the price of the Mario game and the DS case, and sell it to you for $149.99 plus tax.
I thought that all the stores were doing it, until I saw Circuit City and Best Buy's ads in the Sunday paper. Both stores had the regular DS unit , with no free Mario for $149.99
So I guess it isn't a standard deal. But I'm sure that this will be a standard soon.

I just dug through my newspapers to get the exact details.
Actually it was in my Friday newspaper. Nintendo DS Bundle. Video Game Bundle #4394585
1. Nintendo DS console
2. Super Mario 64
3. Nintendo DS Carrying Case
$149.99
Limited to Quantities on Hand, No substitutions, and no Rainchecks on this item.
prices are good through Tuesday March 29th but are subject to change after that.
Of course this is for the advertisement in the Sacramento Bee, and sometimes I think Fry's does different deals for different markets.
Not a bad deal if you were planning on buying a DS anyways, but after seeing an actual PSP in action, I don't know why anyone would spend $150 on a DS. I'm going to have to see this same bundle for $99 before I stand up and take notice and actually consider getting it. Even then, that $100 is money that could have gone towards a PSP.

Fry's does this all the time.
For example when Xbox's started having Star Wars: CW/Tetris Worlds bundles. Fry's would always run a sale with Blinx and another game I can't remember thrown in for free. It's not special packaging just competitive marketing. Fry's always has sales like this or they give away free starter packs of accessories.
