Who here remembers this series? I used to watch it as a kid.. and I'd kinda like to see it again, but I can't help but feel that seeing it now would kill the memory (like that awful Zelda cartoon :().

I remember it, I used to watch it, watched it again a year or 2 ago, and yes, it damn near kills the memory.

A few strange things about the show:

Mother Brain is voiced by Levi Stubbs, Jr. Yes, you read that correctly. The lead singer of the classic Motown group The Four Tops is the voice of Mother Brain.

The voice of Captain N (Matt Hill) went on to star as Ed in Ed, Edd & Eddy, as well as Bass in the English dub of Rockman.exe.

I loved that show. I don't deny how bad it was/is - I still loved it. Though I have not watched it since I was 12 years old. I do don my NES controller belt buckle from time to time (while secretly thinking I am Captain N). But I usually have my shirt untucked when I wear it.

Was this show re-released on DVD? I've actually been looking for the old Captain N episodes in addition to another cartoon called The Botzmaster - both kind of hard to track down.

And in the Captain N cartoon - what game was 'the princess' supposed to be from? Or was she just Princess of all videogames or whatever...(?)

Dang, I still wish I could Pause the world.

I think she was the princess of all game worlds, but I could be wrong.

i want to see the hard-to-find third season where they're trapped in the Final Fantasy world the entire season. It's supposed to be a darker version of the show.

I have tape of Captain N the Game Master with one episode on it called Gameboy. Theres a scene in it from burger time were they get chased by hotdogs and mean looken pickles. quote from mega man " I'm in a mega-pickle." Does any body know how many and/or witch ones were officaly released? Not the seasons just the single episodes that DIC released.

I couldn't stand that show...they destroyed every game character they touched (a beer belly Mega Man? An elvis Dracula? A vain Simon Belmont...) UGH....

I thought the show was cheesy as all hell when I was little, but I watched it anyway. That and Video Power. Johnny Arcade. HAH!

There just wasn't enough videogame programming at the time and I sucked in whatever I could. I was so into games then, I may even go as far as to say it consumed me more then than now, even thouygh my collection is 1000 times larger now.

God, did I love the show. I haven't seen it since it originally aired though... so... a long, long time ago.

Even though they did bastardize most of the characters in the show, you have to admit if they were just a group of heroic, non-personalitied characters, the show would've been pretty boring. How do we know Simon wasn't vain?

And how do we know King Hippo wasn't... uh... green?

I remember being so excited when I heard this series was coming to TV.

I also remember being so bummed when I watched it. Ugh. I have the Gameboy episode VHS tape nintendorocker mentioned, but I haven't bothered to watch it. The ONLY redeeming feature of this show is that there would be occasional "remixed" NES music playing in the background that was halfway decent. I'd love to get an MP3 of the Captain N version of the town theme from Castlevania 2.

You can download the Captain N theme song here (http://www.retrojunk.com/media/137/showall/), if you're into that kind of thing.

The Botzmaster - both kind of hard to track down.

Uh-oh, I'm having a flashback...

I'm Zip Zoolander, ZZ for short.
Y'know I fight the Corps, I'm the Botzmaster!

It's Laser Time, boyz!

Is that it? I used to set my VCR to tape "Conan the Adventurer" and the end credits from that show always got included. Consquently its theme song is seared into my brain although I've never even watched an episode.

Especially Megaman. what was his story with, did he have laryngitis or something?

Anyways, to get back to the matter at hand, i'm in agreement that that show just wasn't as cool as most people remembered it. I personally just saw the show again for the first time in years after buying a VHS episode at the salvation army and boy what a stinker that was. Almost made me want my 50 cents back.

It says something for how nuts I was about video games when I continued watching the show after the fist appearance of Link and Zelda (suffice to say, after how good their own show was, I was *pissed* after sitting through that episode). Of course, it also sums up just how bad cartoons were at that point in time, too.

What, there was a 3rd season?

I know of the first one, and I know of the second one where it was coupled with Mario World...but I never heard of a 3rd season.

I did like how he was named Kevin, and had my same brown hair and thin appearance ;p

Consumed as I am at times by wretched feelings about the excessive stupidities of my childhood, it is probably for the best that I never saw a single episode of this show. And yet, it seems odd that I missed it so completely. Perhaps I have merely succeeded in completely blocking out the memories.

That's MEGA-GREAT, I'M MEGA-GLAD! Great show when we were kids, but I have a hard time watching it now...a MEGAHARD time.

Kevin always called his dog "boy", like 500 times per episode. Simon Belmont was a flaming idiot (and I do mean flaming). Gameboy tried to be SO CUTE he was hideous. Kid Icarus had a lisp, a horrible lisp. AND who could forget our lovable GREEN megaman with a horrible throat defect and a trachea hole.

Yes it was a great show as a kid and I even made a belt and zapper combo with a pair of scissors and a few extra nintendo accesories. But now, it's good for a laugh.

THAT'S MEGA-ALL!!!

The best episode that I remember was one where they brought Kevin's football team from the real world to fight off Wily's goons. Not that the episode was that great, but they brought up some interesting ideas about how Kevin would forget his entire experience in the video game world when he went back.

I'm sure the show wouldn't be that great if I went back and watched it...but meh.

It would make a pretty cool video game - having all those heroes in the same game.

You got it right, that was the Botzmaster. Awesome show. In short, young scientist quits evil corporation and creates BOYZZ Robots (Brain Operated Young ZigoWatopic Zoids). Each had a cool personality and they pretty much acted as terrorists bombing factores that "The Corp" used to make it's ;aw enforcement robots with which they wanted to take over the world.

The show had a electronic-music-ISH soundtrack and many of the scenes were made so that you could watch them with 3D glasses, but you didnt have to. It was a lot of fun to watch, very Videogame-esque. THe final episode ends on such a cliffhanger too! It was Shenmue II caliber cliff hanger! DANG!!

Oh yeah, back on topic (Sorry, I dont mean to threadjack!)

What the hell was with Motherbrain sounding like Audry II from Little Shop of Horrors? I know that the voice acress was mentioned above, but boy did they botch those voices up BIG TIME. It didnt matter though. We are ALL guily of watching this show in our mario pajammas while eating Nintendo Cereal System. Shortly after the show ended, a sugar cereal fueled 8 hour gaming session would be the order of the day. It wasnt the best show, but its another example of how many angles Nintendo used to get at their consumers. Everyone in the US wanted so much to be associated with that Japanese company, that they would do anything, even make a terrible cartoon.

An additional note to everyone commenting on Captain N: the show was produced by DIC. Throw out MASK, Inspector Gadget, The Real Ghostbusters, and the Zelda cartoon and you have one of the worst (by far!) animation libraries in history. Captain N just so happens to come at a time when DIC was ferociously trying to scoop up every license looking for a TV show, and produce it as cheaply and as poorly as possible. That they are still in business (and still producing shows for syndication!) is a bloody miracle.

I remember the Tetris episode. That was a classic. Everything was blocks.

And the episode when Mother Brain tricks Kevin into thinking he was going home only to find out it was a trap.

I loved the show, as did I love the Super Mario Bros Super Show (Until it became Club Mario in a failed attempt to grab the teen audience. Mother fuckers.) and the Zelda cartoon. Yes, I loved that cartoon. Excuuuuse me, Princess!

It's cheesy. It's campy. But I'd give anything to own both shows on DVD. As well as Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World.

I loved this when I was little. I stumbled across season 2 and 3 for download a ways back and grabbed them and have them still on my comp. Watching them again, they are really really bad, but still fun. Also have a bunch of the zelda episodes.

I used to watch Captain N just because it was video game related, but - much like a lot of others here - their treatment of Simon Belmont and Mega Man REALLY pissed me off.

Yeah, Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo were the "dumb cronies."

I remember Botzmaster now. Wow, what a flashback that is. When I was in middle school, I think that came on at 6:30 in the morning, right after Samurai Pizza Cats. I've always been a huge SPC fan, so I ended up watching Botzmaster because I was too lazy to turn the channel.

The Captain N comics aren't THAT bad, since if nothing else you can imagine quality voiceovers. Plus, they have Samus!

Personally I'm a big fan of the live-action parts of the Mario bros Super Show.

Both Super Mario Bros. Super Show and Legend of Zelda have been released on DVD by DIC Entertainment. Also, they've put out DVDs with such obscure shows as Action Man, Wish Kid and Pro Stars. I've seen them for sale at Roses before.

I wonder why they haven't released Captain N. Probably because the licensing would be too expensive to use Capcom's and Konami's characters...

Zelda's DVD was weak, only a couple eps. The Mario one only covers what, the first 5 eps? Unless they finally released a 2nd volume.

And wasn't she part of a love triangle with Kevin (who, for someone who can't beat King Hippo in Punch Out!!, has no business being a "Game Master") and Lana?

Actually if I'm remembering correctly, the publisher said in an interview that they'd like to release the whole series on DVD if the first one sold well enough.

Here's some info on Captain N: The Game Master: http://www.tvtome.com/CaptainNTheGameMaster/ They also have info on every other cartoon ever released in North America as well as live action sit-com and drama info etc. I have most of these episodes downloaded at decent quality if anybody wants them. You can download them from bit torrent as well. Planet NES: http://www.planetnes.com/ also has a couple episodes (terrible quality though) and the complete Zelda cartoon series at decent quality. I'll have to pick up those 2 DVDs. I hope they release the entire Super Mario Bros. Super Show in its original unedited form on DVD, that show was actually very well done compared to most of the other Nintendo related cartoons of the time. I still love them all though no matter how bad they were.
